Picturesque and strong-knit borough
Marietta may not quite fit the definition of a true Bavarian village, but its layout – combined with the region’s Germanic heritage – could almost earn it an honorary designation . Many older colonial style buildings and mature trees occupy the blocks located along the Susquehanna River. With the waterfront, the numerous red-brick and gabled roof buildings and the forested hills on the horizon, this borough resembles an old-time postcard when viewed from above. Marietta further endears locals with its numerous community events and historic venues. The overall scenery provides much of the charm, which has itself been aided by revitalization efforts over the years. “It’s a river town. There’s trails there, and it’s very artsy,” says Rose Madar, a realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Homesale.
Historic colonials and other brick homes
Colonial style houses and row homes – many with red brick sidings – are immediately apparent when passing through this borough. Many homes feature porches spanning their fronts and their close-proximity here provides an additional air of community among a number of blocks. Many price points here fall within the $200,000 to $400,000 price range. A more than 200-year-old, two-story and red brick colonial home with three bedrooms can go for $250,000. A newer three-bedroom town home that is part of a string of row homes can go for just over $270,000.

McCleary’s is another classic pub featuring wooden floors, green-paneling partially covering the walls and framed decorations like framed portraits. It also features a heated patio adorned with plants. Among the selections here are Maryland crab soup, an appetizer of New Zealand mussels and the establishment’s own famous fish and chips.
