Pumpkintown homes offer plenty of land
Homes in the community rest on multi-acre, wooded lots. Because few houses sit along the road’s edge, greenery offers a veil of privacy and surrounds homes with views of the area’s native oak and evergreen trees. Though log cabins are the dominant style and add a rustic feel to the community, other homes feature modern architecture and boast large front porches and panoramic views. While a two-bedroom home from the 1960s can start as low as $125,000, most homes sell for at least $300,000, with price largely dependent on property size. A two-bedroom house on 2 acres might cost $345,000 and a three-bedroom home on more than 5 acres can extend up to $580,000.Pumpkintown has an overall crime score of 1 out of 10, according to the CAP Index Crime Score, significantly lower than the national average of 4.
Locals enjoy the outdoors at Table Rock State Park
Table Rock State Park, in the western portion of the community, is home to Pinnacle Mountain, the tallest mountain in the state. The park features 12 miles of trails and two lakes. It’s also an entry point to the Foothills Trail, a hiking path with over 75 miles of mountainside views. Less than 15 miles northeast of Table Rock, Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area borders Pumpkintown. With over 10,000 acres of green space, Mountain Bridge allows locals to hike to waterfalls, rock climb or go birdwatching throughout the year. “Aesthetically, it’s one of the prettiest areas in the upstate of South Carolina,” Bracken says. “The mountains and lakes are a big draw.”Students attend well-ranked Pickens County School District schools
Public school students may attend Ambler Elementary, Pickens Middle and Pickens High. Part of the Pickens County School District, the schools earn A-minus, B-plus, and B-minus Niche grades, respectively. Home of the Blue Flame, the high school boasts a state-championship-winning marching band. The Pumpkintown Pumpkin Festival is an anticipated annual event
With Greenville about 20 miles away, locals can take advantage of live music and entertainment events held in the city. “In Greenville, there’s the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, where concerts are held,” Hall says. Closer to home, Table Rock Park hosts jam sessions for bluegrass musicians once a month, and Oolenoy Community House holds a bluegrass night every Friday off Dacusville Highway. A former schoolhouse built in 1918, the community house is also the site of the Pumpkintown Pumpkin Festival. The annual event features a parade, live music and vendors selling everything from food to pumpkins.Greenville is only about 20 miles away

The Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is a 35-mile trip by way of Route 183.Aunt Sue’s Country Corner and Pumpkintown Mountain Opry are popular eateries
While access to major retailers and national chains like Walmart Supercenter and Hardee’s requires a 10-mile drive to Pickens, there are a few local stores and restaurant options in Pumpkintown. Pumpkintown General Store & Café and Dollar General sit at the intersection of Table Rock Road and Pumpkintown Highway for essentials and groceries. Aunt Sue’s Country Corner, just off Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway, offers a popular all-you-can-eat buffet and a small gift shop with odds and ends ranging from Moon Pie merchandise to hiking sticks. Farther down the highway is Pumpkintown Mountain Opry, another stop known for its barbecue plates and pulled pork sandwiches.
