An established community with rural land
Rolling farmland and wandering creeks make up the expansive landscape in Marriott-Slaterville, a residential community about 5 miles northwest of downtown Ogden, and is dubbed “Utah’s Open Space City.” Originally established in the 1850s as two separate settlements, and named after their founding pioneers, Marriott-Slaterville merged into one community in 1999 and is now home to roughly 2,000 people. The area has always been an agricultural haven, and its acres of flat fields and cottonwood forests surround pockets of newly constructed suburban homes. “A lot of people born and raised here love it. It’s an old, established city that’s developing new growth,” says Real Estate Agent Camille Thorne with Real Broker, LLC, who has almost 10 years of experience.

Single-family homes on large lots
There are two distinct themes for homes in Marriott-Slaterville. Properties farther west along Pioneer Road are spread out, with plenty of open space between neighbors. “Many of the lots are bigger, so you get a little bit of that rural, country feel,” Thorne says. Traditional mid-century homes, ranch-style homes and farmhouses built from the 1950s to the 1990s are common. These houses span 1,100 to 2,200 square feet and cost $400,000 to $550,000. Closer to Interstate 15, in the east of the neighborhood, homes are lined along residential streets within newly developed, mini subdivisions. Modern Craftsman homes built in the 2020s are common, with multiple pointed roofs, front gables and stone accents, are 2,600 to 4,200 square feet and cost between $725,000 and $825,000. There are also streets with multi-story, modern luxury homes built in the 2010s that are larger and sit on acreage. Prices fall around $1.3 million to $1.5 million. Most homes in Marriott-Slaterville come with ample yard space with landscaped features, plus driveways and attached garages.

Parks, sports facilities and natural land
Marriott Park and Slaterville Park both have large grassy fields and a playground area. Marriott has a softball field, while Slaterville has a baseball diamond, a basketball court and a soccer field. City Hall Park is a pocket park with a playground and walking paths. Down the road, Toad’s Fun Zone is an entertainment center with go-kart racing, batting cages, an indoor mini golf course and an arcade. Pickleball Academy on 700 N has two indoor and two outdoor courts. The building hosts rec league tournaments, provides public clinics and offers private lessons.
The Ogden Nature Center is an educational facility offering community programs and summer camps. It rests on a 152-acre nature preserve east of the neighborhood that has multiple walking trails. Visitors can enjoy the ponds or relax at the Dumke Picnic Grove. The Ogden River flows along south Marriott-Slaterville, providing access to the parkway trail system that runs throughout Ogden.

Celebrating the community through family-friendly festivities
The Marriott-Slaterville community puts on several events throughout the year to celebrate the holidays. For Easter, Slaterville Park hosts an egg hunt. There are also multiple festivities for the Fourth of July, including a 5K run, a parade and games. “During the summer, they have a parade and fireworks to celebrate the city’s founding,” Thorne says. Additionally, the city holds a Garden Market every Saturday, in the warmer months, where locals sell fresh produce, natural products and artisan crafts.

Shops and restaurants on 12th Street and beyond
Despite the neighborhood’s size, options for shopping and dining are limited. There are a handful of places at the intersection of 12th Street and Interstate 15. Ramblin’ Roads is an old-timey restaurant serving breakfast and lunch. Jeremiah’s Restaurant specializes in classic American comfort food, while Burly Burger has gourmet sandwiches. Farther north, along 1900 W, there’s a Beans & Brews Coffeehouse and GriDeli’s. There are also auto dealerships and repair shops dotting the road.
For more options, downtown Ogden is roughly 5 miles south with dozens of local restaurants and unique shops. WinCo Foods is the closest grocery store, about 3 miles away on 12th Street. There’s also a Walmart Supercenter roughly 4 miles east on 20th Street. “You’re really close to hopping on the Interstate and heading to Riverdale, where the mall is too,” Thorne continues.

Traveling in and around Marriott-Slaterville
Marriott-Slaterville is a car-dependent community. Interstate 15, known as Veteran’s Memorial Highway, cuts through the east of the neighborhood and travels north to south. Drivers can take this route about 40 miles into Salt Lake City. Utah state Route 39 runs east to west along the southern portion of the neighborhood and turns into 12th Street. Downtown Ogden is roughly 5 miles away. The Ogden Regional Airport is about 6 miles south, though commercial flights are available at the Salt Lake City International Airport, about 45 minutes south.
