Perched on the shores of the Savanah River at the head of the Augusta Canal, Martinez is a northwestern Augusta suburb located in Columbia County. It has access to multiple trails and various parks, promoting an active lifestyle. Being a part of Columbia County puts the area in the Columbia County School District, which scores an A on Niche. “Martinez is wonderful,” says Ashley Wilson, an associate broker with Summer House Realty with about five years of experience. “It is in an excellent location in the CSRA, and you can get anywhere locally and beyond quickly, and families tend to like the school system.”

Spread across multiple neighborhoods, potential homeowners can find many architectural styles in Martinez. The original home inventory includes ranch homes and split levels, but newer subdivisions feature Colonial and traditional homes. In some sections such as West Lake, are gated and behind the gates are traditional brick homes with perfectly manicured lawns. Buyers can expect a three-bedroom ranch home to sell for around $215,000, while a four-bedroom Colonial Revival will be approximately $310,000. “The market in Martinez always remains stable. We have been lucky with that, and when things aren’t going well nationally, it is still pretty good here,” Wilson says.

Columbia County Transit and access to Interstate 20
While Columbia County doesn’t offer a traditional public transportation service, it does allow all residents to request a ride at a cost if needed. A local must request their appointment at least one business day in advance, and it can be done between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Martinez is just north of Interstate 20, which runs from South Carolina to Texas. “Interstate 20 allows you to get to Atlanta, the mountains, or the beach in about two to three hours,” Wilson says.

Residents can pick up groceries from the Publix at Fury’s Ferry Plaza, which features a slew of fast-food chains like Jersey Mike’s. A handful of big box stores like Target, Walmart and Sam’s Club are scattered throughout Martinez. For a bite to eat, Cadwalladers is an upscale dining option that has been open since 1987 with traditional American fare, or enjoy a casual meal from French Market Grille West, which serves Cajun and Creole recipes.

An outdoor lifestyle in Martinez
With its proximity to the Savannah River, residents can spend days on the water kayaking or fishing along the banks. Hikers can use one of the many trails, including the Augusta Canal Trail, which heads downtown and to the Riverwalk. Reed Creek Nature Park and Interpretive Center provides a place where locals can explore the nearby wetlands. Neighbors can take a self-guided tour of the park along its raised boardwalk and trail, stroll their gardens, or see the wildlife exhibits at the interpretive center. Lakeside Park is popular for those participating in youth sports. It has five soccer fields and multiple tennis courts, where people can play pickleball, the growing sport. Families can join the West Lake Country Club, which is membership-based and has an 18-hole golf course and swimming pool.

Celebrating Armed Forces Day and free to the public, Thunder over Evans celebrates those who serve with an evening of live music and an expansive fireworks display. Residents can also check out a show at the Columbia County Performing Arts Center, which is a 2,000-seat venue that hosts off-Broadway shows, plays and concerts.

A major job provider in the area, Fort Eisenhower is a little less than 10 miles from Martinez. The United States Army Installation opened in 1941, and is now the home of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, U.S. Army Cyber Command and the Cyber Center of Excellence.
