A rural small-town community with Colonial roots

Maytown dates all the way back to America’s Colonial days, with wealthy landowners purchasing the land in 1760. Today, Maytown still feels like a slice of history with brick Colonial buildings lining the small town streets. “We are a cute, small town with a great community, and I love living here,” says Realtor and resident Rose Madar with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Homesale Realty. Maytown Center Square is at the intersection of High and River Streets, featuring a small collection of headstones, trees and American flags. “The square is in the middle of our town and overlooked by several neighborhood organizations,” Madar says. Farms and crop fields cushion the area around Maytown, giving it a rural feel and creating a quieter atmosphere away from busy suburban and city life.

Maytown's historical sites and Marietta's access to the river

Embracing its heritage, the Maytown Historical Society, founded in 1985, actively preserved the town’s past, hosting museum field trips and neighborhood picnics. The society overlooks The Maytown Museum, housed in one of the town’s original log homes highlighting a trove of artifacts and oral histories. Another piece of history lives at The Grove Mansion, an early 19th-century Second Empire style home listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Lloyd H. Fuhrman Memorial Park offers a playground for the kids and baseball diamonds and basketball courts. Thrill seekers can get the adrenaline rushing at Maytown Sport Parachute Club. Down by Marietta, Susquehanna Beach Island offers a stone beach on the river and access to the water. Northwest Lancaster County River Trail runs 14 miles through five different municipalities, inviting walkers, joggers and bikers to explore Lancaster County.

Colonial farmhouses and newer townhomes around Maytown

Maytown’s houses are a mix of single-family detached homes and townhomes. The single-family homes are lined along the streets around Maytown Center Square, and many around the town center have a more traditional Colonial farmhouse feel, though people can also find plenty of Cape Cods. The streets have mature trees hanging over the road and adding vibrant colors in the fall. Many homes feature pleated fan American flags off the windows. As people move further away from Maytown, the newer developments feature more townhomes. Built around the 90s, most are Colonial Revival styles. Homes across Maytown typically list between $225,000 and $400,000.
