Robinson Township
Robinson Township features sprawling ranch-style homes
The township is sparsely populated by single-family homes that complement its rural landscapes. Ranch and Cape Cod-style homes sit along single-lane roads, and tree-lined lots offer residents plenty of privacy with up to several acres of land. Homebuyers will also find traditional farmhouses and custom-built properties that have outdoor amenities like detached barns or spacious decks. Closer to the borough of McDonald, houses sit closer together and include bungalows with columned front porches. “Robinson is a more populated area, but there are some rural roads that lead to the middle of nowhere,” Bechtold says. Prices typically range from $200,000 for a two-bedroom Cape Cod to $350,000 for a four-bedroom ranch-style home. Custom-built properties tend to be more expensive, selling for upwards of $450,000. Robinson Township has an overall CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.Athletic facilities, playground and events at Heritage Park
In the southeastern corner of Robinson Township, Heritage Park features basketball and tennis courts, a playground and a covered picnic area with charcoal grills. The park hosts community events like McSummerfest, a week-long fair featuring live music, carnival games and food vendors. Next to the park is the Heritage Public Library, which offers programs for all ages. Residents also have access to the Montour Trail, the longest suburban rail trail in the country, which weaves through the township along the former Montour Railroad. Several trailheads provide space for parking, and the paved path is open to walkers, runners and bikers. Quicksilver Golf Club offers a public 18-hole golf course, while the McDonald Sportsmen’s Association provides opportunities for trapshooting, archery and other outdoor activities. Less than 10 miles away is Hillman State Park, a popular hunting spot managed by the Pennsylvania Game Commission.Seasonal events at Geary Farm include a fall festival
There are several family-owned farms in Robinson Township. “These days, farms are important because of the food you can get there. They have meat, eggs or fresh milk and butter,” Bechtold says. Geary Farm is open to the public year-round, and the 19th-century farm also hosts seasonal festivities for the community. Events range from an annual Easter egg hunt to a fall festival complete with pumpkin picking, live music and a bounce house. In December, A Very Geary Christmas invites visitors to spread holiday cheer while enjoying food trucks, a bonfire and an appearance from Santa Claus.Local favorites include Harrington’s Bar & Restaurant
Shopping and dining are limited, but there are several local restaurants in Robinson Township. Live music and motorcycle nights are weekly occurrences at Mousetrap, and the casual hangout serves American classics. A bit further south is Harrington’s Bar & Restaurant, a neighborhood pub with pool tables, trivia nights and weekly specials like Wing Wednesday. The borough of McDonald is no more than a 10-mile drive south and features spots like Gianni’s Pizza and M.A.’s Ice Cream Shop. For groceries, the borough has a Giant Eagle Supermarket. PA 22 leads about 13 miles east to The Pointe at North Fayette, a shopping plaza with chain retailers like Target, Walmart and Old Navy.Dual enrollment program at Fort Cherry Junior/Senior High School
Robinson Township is served by the Fort Cherry School District, which earns a C-plus from Niche and has an average student-teacher ratio of 12-to-1. The district follows a 1:1 technology initiative and issues each student a Chromebook. Fort Cherry Elementary Center scores a B-minus from Niche and serves kindergarten through sixth grade, while Fort Cherry Junior/Senior High School receives a C-plus. The high school partners with the University of Pittsburgh’s College in High School Program to offer several college-level courses on its campus. Pitt’s classes are offered at a discounted rate, and students can earn high school and college credit simultaneously. Both schools are about 12 miles from Robinson Township.Access to the Southern Beltway and U.S. Route 22
Robinson Township lacks public transportation and is largely car-dependent. Winding country roads branch off Pennsylvania Route 576 and U.S. Route 22, which intersect in the heart of town. Also known as the Southern Beltway, PA 576 leads about 7 miles northeast to the Pittsburgh International Airport. Downtown Pittsburgh is about a 22-mile drive away via US 22.
