Eldorado has golfing and great schools outside Dallas

Contemporary homes overlook the golf course in Eldorado, a family-friendly suburban community 30 miles north of Dallas. With country club recreation just steps – or a golf cart ride – away, highly-rated schools in the McKinney Independent School District and direct access to U.S. Route 75, Eldorado is a comfortable choice for families and commuters in the Dallas area. And as McKinney’s population has more than quadrupled in the last 25 years, commercial growth has matched, so locals don’t need to leave town to enjoy many shopping, dining and entertainment options.

Contemporary brick homes overlook the golf course

Shade trees and wide sidewalks line the winding streets of Eldorado. Homes usually sell for between $450,000 and $1.5 million, and most were built in the 1990s. “Your homes are 25 to 30 years old. They’ve gone through their first HVAC system, first or second water heater, and people have maintained them well. Many have added pools,” says Clair Cannon, a local real estate agent at Texas Urban Living. Homes over $1 million often span over 5,000 square feet and have spacious backyards with well-kept lawns and inground pools. Homes on the lower end of the range are scaled down – they might not have the golf course views or as much living space – but they have the same red brick exteriors and contemporary designs as the larger properties.

Neighborhood students attend the McKinney ISD

Most students in Eldorado are zoned to attend Valley Creek Elementary School, which has an A grade from Niche and is in the neighborhood. “Parents drive their kids to and from the school in their golf carts. It’s super cute,” Cannon says. Faubion Middle School has an A-minus rating, and McKinney High School has an A and around 2,700 students. The high school offers over 30 Advanced Placement courses and 16 sports with varsity and junior varsity teams. A-minus-rated McKinney Christian Academy, which teaches kindergarten through 12th grades, is among the private schooling options in town. There are several preschools and daycare centers, such as Primrose School of Eldorado, also nearby.

Shopping and dining surround Eldorado

Grocers like Trader Joe’s and Albertsons border the neighborhood. There are also more chain stores and services, such as Starbucks, Texas Roadhouse, Belk and LA Fitness, just off U.S. 75. For a drink or dinner out, locals are a quick drive from downtown McKinney or trendy mixed-use areas like Hub 121. “It’s a new development that’s got live music spots, restaurants and a wine bar,” Cannon says. New businesses are often opening around town, with a new favorite being The Stix Icehouse off Eldorado Parkway. “People have been talking about it, and I’ve heard good things. When we find new stuff that pops up, we like to check it out,” Cannon says.

Getting to Dallas from Eldorado

U.S. 75 borders Eldorado to the east and takes drivers 30 miles south to downtown Dallas. “There’s something to be said for the proximity to the highway for these communities,” Cannon says. “People are commuting all over.” Commuters can also park at the Parker Road Station in Plano and ride the DART Rail into Dallas. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is about 35 miles southwest. McKinney National Airport, 4 miles east, has plans to start offering commercial flights in late 2026. McKinney also has its own hospital, the Medical City McKinney Hospital of Doctors, which is 2 miles away.
