Offering a mixed suburban, small town and rural feel with its large estates in new subdivisions to the west, older homes on small lots to the east and sprawling farmlands in between, is the Washington County neighborhood of Meadowlands. “It’s a small town, but there’s a farm that’s still prominent in the area that gives people a sense of space even though there is development around us,” says Lisa Perri, a Realtor at Realty One Group Gold Standard. Perri is a lifelong Meadowlands resident and has been selling homes here for the last seven years.

Meadowlands is full of diverse architecture, including Colonial Revival, Cape Cod, craftsman and ranch-style homes. There is also a mix of older and newly built homes. “It’s an old town, but a lot of development is happening. Every time someone buys a home, they’re fixing it up,” Perri says. Older two- to three-bedroom fixer-uppers can start below $50,000, while new three- to five-bedroom estates can sell for nearly $1 million. Many homes, however, fall somewhere in the middle, ranging between $200,000 and $550,000.

Kids can attend schools in the Chartiers-Houston School District. Kindergarten through sixth-grade students may attend Allison Park Elementary School, which boasts a 15-to-1 student-teacher ratio and was graded a B on Niche. They can then move up to Chartiers-Houston Junior/Senior High School, which serves seventh through 12th graders. The high school, which received a C-plus on Niche, offers several dual enrollment and advanced placement courses for high school-level students.

While there aren’t any parks in the immediate neighborhood, residents regularly visit Canonsburg Town Park, just over 4 miles away. This 42-acre park has amenities for every season, including a public pool, walking trails, shaded pavilions, basketball courts and baseball fields. It also puts on several annual or recurring events, like its free summer concert series and movie nights, its winter sled riding and snowman-building contest, and its spring Easter egg hunt. Another popular spot, the Washington Country Club, is less than 2 miles southwest of central Meadowlands. It offers a par 71 golf course and dining service at its Bar and Grill.

When it comes to dining, Elly’s at the Meadowlands is a new local favorite. Flat screens and sports memorabilia line the walls, and a pool table stands beside the dining room, giving the diner a classic sports bar feel. Its menu includes traditional bar foods like loaded fries, chicken tenders, and various beers. Grande Jr Pizza Express is a small, family-owned pizza joint popular among locals. It offers New York-styled pizza by the slice or pie, as well as American classics like cheeseburgers and chicken wings. For other dining options, residents often head to the nearby Trinity Point Shopping Center, which has several restaurants, including Fusion Japanese Steak House, Panera Bread and Moe’s.

Several mom-and-pop shops dot the streets here. Along Country Club Road is The Rusty Heart, a home décor shop specializing in unique holiday accents, Steel City Wheelhouse, a tire and automotive customization shop, and the Meadowlands Car Wash. Residents can find 10x The Glam Salon, Sir Speedy Print, Sign, Marketing shop and Gabby Food Market on Pike Street. For groceries, Trinity Point Shopping Center offers several options, including Walmart, Sam’s Club and Giant Eagle Supermarket. For additional shopping needs, the Tanger Outlets Pittsburgh, less than 1 mile away, is full of popular retailers such as Tommy Hilfiger, Nike and H&M.

U.S. Interstate Highway 79 flanks Meadowlands, making it easy to travel to Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh International Airport, just 25 and 30 miles away, respectively. Freedom Transit public buses serve this area, and bus stops are found along Pike Street.
