Tamarac
Rural roads line much of Tamarac
Single-family homes line the tree-lined streets of Tamarac, which is entirely residential in its makeup. Quiet side streets lead to cul-de-sacs tucked back amid the trees. “Lot sizes are at least a quarter of an acre, sometimes more, with big backyards," Campos says. "It depends on where you’re located, of course, but a lot of them do back up to woods.” The most common architectural style here is colonial-style homes, with most of the houses dating to the 1970s or 1980s. “There are lots of colonial styles, but also a mix of other layouts,” Campos says. The price range often falls between $550,000 and $800,000. Crime in Tamarac receives a CAP score of 1 out of 10, significantly below the national average of 4.Seasonal events dot the annual calendar
Tamarac locals have no shortage of annual events in the neighborhood and surrounding Medford, many put on by the Tamarac Lakes Association. The events are seasonally-themed but are yearly staples. Favorite annual happenings include a fall festival to kick off the autumnal season and the Turkey Bowl near Thanksgiving, when a flag football tournament commemorates the November holiday. Tamarac Beach plays host to the Beach Opening Party and Beach Closing Party, which bookend the summer, and the neighborhood welcomes colder weather with a Winter Party and Breakfast with Santa opportunities.Recreation on the water and on terra firma
About half a dozen lakes sit in the neighborhood, including Tamarac Lake, where residents can relax on small beaches, go canoeing on the waters or cast lines for fish like bass and perch. Several lakes in the surrounding area are long, thin bodies of water, including Taunton Lake and Lake Pine to the west or Timber Lake to the north. “There are lakes everywhere,” Campos says. “A lot of the neighborhoods have their own lakes, but typically only for community access.” Bob Meyer Memorial Park sits to the south of Tamarac and has a playground, multiple sports fields and courts, a pavilion and more. Anglers can also fish in Haynes Creek, which meanders through parts of the neighborhood.Restaurants outside of the neighborhood
No eateries sit within Tamarac, so residents have to head outside the neighborhood to dine out. To the west, on Hopewell Road, Crawdaddy’s Cajun serves up classic Southern food close to Donkey’s Place Too’s cheesesteaks. Leo’s Famous Yum Yum complements the nearby food options with homemade ice cream, Italian ice and frozen yogurt. At the Village at Taunton Forge, located northwest of Tamarac, locals can find Italian food at Illiano Cucina and Mexican food at Tacos el Tio.“Main Street has a couple of restaurants,” Campos says of the area further north of the neighborhood. “There are a lot of great small businesses and shopping on Main Street. There are also a few here or there on Stokes.” Main Street eventually becomes Stokes Road closer to Tamarac, offering a variety of dining options like Tiga’s Artisan Pizzeria, O’Sweet Savannah’s ice cream and freshly baked items at the Medford Bagel Shop. Grocery shoppers can head to the ShopRite of Medford, about 5 miles north.
Four schools for Tamarac students’ education
Students can begin at Cranberry Pines Elementary School, which receives an A-minus from Niche and has received Best Elementary Schools recognition from U.S. News & World Report. From there, they can move on to Haines Sixth Grade Center and attend Medford Memorial Middle School for seventh and eighth grades. Both schools garner A-minus ratings. Students who wish to continue in the public school system move to another district for high school, such as the Lenape Regional High School District, where they can attend Shawnee High School, which also scores an A-minus.Access to larger cities in New Jersey
Residents can reach two state routes in less than 6 miles. Route 70 sits about 4 miles north of Tamarac, while Route 73 is over 5 miles west. Highway-goers can drive to Interstate 295 or the New Jersey Turnpike; both are around 10 miles northwest of Tamarac. “Tamarac is easy,” Campos says. “You can hit Route 70 within less than 10 minutes. Route 70 will bring you right to 295, which will lead you to all the major arteries.” Philadelphia and Camden sit around 25 miles west of the neighborhood, and Trenton is over 30 miles north. “There are tons of commuters who live there,” Campos says. The closest hospital is Virtua Marlton Hospital, around 5 miles west. Philadelphia International Airport is over 30 miles away.
