The Lichterman Nature Center sits across Ridgeway Road from Kirby Woods. Run by the Memphis Museums of Science and History, it features a visitor center, a play area and an arboretum with trails around a lake. But it’s Shelby Farms Park, about 6 miles away, that is the area’s most popular park, with trails, playgrounds and even a herd of buffalo among its 4,500 acres. “It’s six times larger than Central Park in New York,” Rubenstein says. “For a park, that’s the spot to go for Memphians. People will drive from all over the city to go there.”Students attend Memphis-Shelby County Schools or highly rated private options

Residents can also head downtown for its many festivals, with several revolving around the city’s musical and culinary heritage.Kirby Woods has convenient access to I-240

Kirby Woods abuts the busy commercial corridor around Poplar Avenue. Grocery stores and fast food casual restaurants fill the shopping centers that line the drag. Kroger is less than a mile from the neighborhood, and residents can head to the nearby Target for other essentials.
