With access to top-tier education and a prestigious, century-old country club, Meridian Hills is consistently sought-after by Indianapolis homebuyers who crave that lifestyle. About 9 miles north of downtown, this tranquil, heavily forested town in the Washington Township is home to around 1,800 people. "It's a lot of mature trees, very affluent," says Cara Conde, a veteran Realtor and a top-selling solo agent for F.C. Tucker Company in Indianapolis. "It's just a really good atmosphere." Meridian Hills is ideal in many respects for those seeking a cozy, accommodating living experience conveniently close to Indy's biggest cultural hotspots. "It's not really urban, but it's not entirely suburban," Conde says. Meridian Hills is just a short distance from downtown or much else. "The home prices, however, are not cheap. Our neighborhood was not expensive when I lived there because we were on the fringe. But in the heart of Meridian Hills, the homes are beautiful, big and expensive," Conde says.

Top-shelf public and private schools like Park Tudor

As much as Meridian Hills' beautiful homes, the community's proximity to some of the area's best public and private schools may be its next biggest draw. The Metropolitan School District of Washington Township serves the neighborhood and includes Spring Mill Elementary School, which Niche grades B, Westlane Middle School, which Niche grades B-minus and A-minus-rated North Central High School. Only about 3 miles east of the town, North Central is well known for its International Baccalaureate (IB) program and boasts multiple championship-winning athletic teams, including boys' tennis and girls' volleyball. Niche gives the school district an overall grade of A-minus. Meanwhile, two highly reputed private schools sit right within the town boundaries. Park Tudor School has served the neighborhood for over 120 years. It boasts a 9-to-1 student-teacher ratio and a 100% college enrollment rate. St. Luke Catholic School, founded in 1961, serves kindergarten through eighth grade and has been named a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education.

Trail to the White River at Marott Park

Meridian Hills' wealth of amenities includes Marott Park, a 100-acre nature preserve with trails, birdwatching, and spring wildflowers. An exceptional vista for a relaxing walk in nature, the trails lead down to the White River. Secluded and serene, it's an excellent place for families and individuals to get lost in nature and not have to go far to do so. Meanwhile, Meridian Hills Country Club has helped residents socialize and unwind for 100 years. Its golf course, open since 1923, was designed by well-known golf course architect Bill Diddle. Residents of all ages can enjoy leisure and competition at the country club's pool, tennis, pickleball and bocce facilities or get a workout at the fitness center. Then there's Holliday Park, which sits just outside Meridian Hills but is well known for its natural beauty. It also has trails, shelters, an arboretum, a playground, and a nature center. Sometimes, the park features live music events, too.

Meridian Restaurant and Hollyhock Hill for dinner

For shopping, dining and other activities outside the neighborhood, bustling commercial areas like Nora and Carmel are within 15 minutes by car. Keystone at the Crossing is where shoppers can locate stores like Pandora, Sephora, Nordstrom and J. Crew. Groceries are in Nora as well. That's where Kroger and Target are located. For dinner, find Meridian Restaurant and Bar just two-and-a-half miles away, serving American-style cuisine. "That place is almost like an institution; it's been there forever," Conde says. Or try Hollyhock Hill, which opened in 1928. "It looks like an old big house. They have this Indianapolis Fried chicken that they're well known for."

North Meridian gets you there

With limited public transportation options, it's a sure bet that having a car is a must in Meridian Hills. For motorists, traffic tends toward relatively smooth sailing. "There's one big thoroughfare, which is North Meridian Street," Conde says. "That one has more vehicles and a lot of stoplights, but I wouldn't say there's a lot of heavy traffic, and you can always find alternate routes." Drivers can pretty much go everywhere in about 10 minutes, including Interstate 465, which loops around the Indianapolis metropolitan area.
