Las Sendas is a gated community surrounded by Mesa desert

Luxury amenities and mountain views combine in Las Sendas, a gated, master-planned community with a wide selection of custom and pre-built homes. Residents can join dozens of social clubs and access well-maintained trails, three parks, an on-site golf course, and a spa and fitness club. The neighborhood is on the far east side of Mesa, surrounded by desert and mountains, keeping the area quiet and scenic. Some of the city’s most prominent outdoor destinations, including Usery Mountain Regional Park, are outside the front gates. “Many people move here because of the relationships, because they know others who live here,” says Christal Bromley, executive director for the Las Sendas Community Association. “We have a robust lifestyle calendar, a natural desert landscape surrounds us, and we have beautiful views.”

Thousands of pre-built and custom home options offer variety for homebuyers

The community has over 34,000 homes split into 50 “enclaves,” or subdivisions. Residents can choose between buying a production home or building a custom property. This freedom to develop and modify new homes means Las Sendas has many sizes, styles and price points. Ranch-style and split-level homes sell for $400,000 to $650,000, while Spanish Revival and Mediterranean properties can be $650,000 to $900,000. Larger homes with four or more bedrooms range from $900,000 to $2 million, and Las Sendas has a few “estate” style mansions with mountain views that can be $5 million to $10 million. Townhouse and condo units are available for $400,000 to $700,000. The community’s CAP Index Crime Score is 2 out of 10, half of the national score of 4.

Walking trails, golf and sports are inside the Las Sendas gates

"Las Sendas" is Spanish for "the paths," a nod to the 14 trails that loop through the community. All these paths connect to three on-site parks. Boulder Mountain Park has pickleball, tennis, bocce and soccer facilities, Trailhead Park has a 25-meter lap pool, and Sonoran Heights has a sand volleyball court. Residents can also purchase a Las Sendas Spa and Fitness Center membership and play rounds at Las Sendas Golf Club, a public par-72 course. Just east of the neighborhood, Usery Mountain Regional Park has 29 miles of hiking trails. To the north, the Granite Reef Recreational Area borders the Lower Salt River and is open for fishing and paddleboarding.

Card games, holiday parties and Food Truck Fridays provide neighborhood fun

Las Sendas has a built-in calendar of events and social activities. Residents can join social clubs focusing on cards, bocce, quilting and paddleboarding and participate in recreation programs like kids’ soccer, dance lessons, and all-ages tennis and pickleball clinics. Weekly gatherings, including Food Truck Fridays, feature local food trucks, bingo nights, drive-in movies and holiday events. “We have over 30 events throughout the year, and they’re for both kids and adults,” Bromley says. “We have a mini concert series, a light tour, car shows, our Eggstravaganza for Easter time, craft workshops, so many things.”

Neighborhood schools get top ratings

The Mesa Unified School District serves the area. Las Sendas Elementary School and Fremont Junior High School have A-minus Niche scores, and Red Mountain High School has an A. Red Mountain High offers an in-school STEM Institute program with specialized courses in biomedical sciences, engineering science and computer sciences. Mesa Community College and a branch campus for Benedictine University are on the city's west side.

Groceries, coffee and brunch on Red Mountain Gateway

Shopping centers like Ridgeview Plaza and Red Mountain Gateway surround Red Mountain Freeway outside Las Sendas. These small shopping centers have grocery stores like Albertsons and Safeway, and stores selling sporting goods, home goods and craft supplies. Ridgeview Plaza features plenty of eateries to start the morning. Hava Java Mesa sells coffee and tea, Sunnyside Breakfast Lounge serves fruit-infused pancakes and waffles, and What’s Crackin Café is known for its brunch and specialty cocktails.

Highway 202 and Valley Metro bus routes offer convenience

Red Mountain Freeway, also called State Highway 202, runs next to Las Sendas and connects the neighborhood to the rest of the city. Las Sendas is on the far east side of Mesa, putting it 15 miles from downtown and 28 miles from Phoenix. Valley Metro runs daily bus routes between Mesa and Phoenix, with stops on University Drive, Main Street and Broadway Road. These lines stop at houses of worship, such as Fountain of Life Christian Fellowship on Main and Cornerstone Church on Broadway.
