Multicultural community five minutes from Downtown Mesa
Downtown Mesa’s history museums and contemporary art centers may only be a five-minute metro ride away, but Reed Park offers a cultural experience all its own. The neighborhood of over 18,000 residents has remained one of the city’s most multicultural communities for generations. “It’s an area in general that highly represents our Hispanic community – we estimate that about 20% speak English [as a first language],” the neighborhood’s Community Engagement Coordinator, Tania Gerard explains. While not all Reed Park residents share the same backgrounds, “Cuisine and coffee are a language that really brings us together.” Gerard says Mexican bakeries, Sonoran hotdog stands and international grocery stores are all within walking distance, but “everything else you really need a car for.”

!960s ranch-style homes with retro carports
Reed Park is a densely packed residential neighborhood with flat sidewalks connecting to the nearby metro stations and local restaurants. Most homes showcase California ranch-style architecture, with low-pitch gable roofs extending across retro carports. When the neighborhood was first established in the 1960s, “Carports were used instead of garages – this makes it a more open and inviting community,” Gerard points out. While styles are similar, each Reed Park home has its own unique character. Some houses display hints of Craftsman architecture with exposed rafters and colorful accents, while others feature intricate stone detailing and stucco exteriors. Arizona’s dry desert climate makes it difficult to grow green grass, so many residents have opted for beach pebble lawns and drought-tolerant plants. Like the surrounding urban neighborhoods, Reed Park homes typically list between $350,000 and $450,000.

Reed Park is "all about Mexican bakeries"
Residents can walk to Main Street and find all the everyday necessities at Food City. After a trip to the store, hungry shoppers can stop by the drive-thru at Filberto’s for a quick taco or pick up an easy dinner at the Pizza Mart. Authentic Mexican groceries and hand-cut meats are available along Gilbert Road at Mercado Y Carniceria El Rancho. In the same strip mall, Aguila’s Hideaway is the local go-to for a casual drink after work. Some of the best lo mein in town is served just around the corner at Big Bowl Chinese. While the neighborhood has plenty of restaurants to choose from, Gerard emphasizes, “This area is all about Mexican bakeries.” Locals recommend trying the pan dulce from La Guadalupana Bakery.

Mesa High is an Arizona A+ School of Excellence
Students can attend Mesa Unified public schools. Lindbergh Elementary is easily walkable from south Reed Park, while Longfellow Elementary serves the north side of the neighborhood. Both schools offer preschool through sixth grade and score a C-plus on Niche. Middle schoolers move on to the B-plus-rated Poston Junior High where they can join the National Academic League or perform with the school’s advanced orchestra. Also receiving a B-plus from Niche, Mesa High School was recently recognized by the Arizona Educational Foundation as an A+ School of Excellence for its continual dedication to academic excellence.

Escape the heat at the Mesa Aquatic Complex
Gerard describes the neighborhood’s eponymous Reed Park as “kinda like the hub of the community.” Kids try out new tricks on the skatepark while they wait for the new playscape to be built. Next to the high school, Mesa Aquatic Complex is the perfect place to escape Arizona’s sweltering summer heat. On rainy days, locals can head downtown to check out the Arizona Museum of Natural History or browse curated media exhibits at the Mesa Contemporary Art Museum.
In Reed Park, the Mesa Aquatic Complex has a lap pool, diving pool, and a lazy river.

Five-minute metro ride from Downtown Mesa
Two metro stations along Main Street connect to Downtown Mesa in fewer than 5 minutes. From the metro, locals can easily access Pheonix Sky Harbor International Airport or continue riding north to watch the Arizona Cardinals play at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale. While public transit is a popular option, “you still need a car ideally,” Gerard adds. Drivers can head down Gilbert Road or Stapley Drive and quickly hop on US Route 60. This major state highway links to Banner Desert Medical Center, just over 5 miles away.
