A little Little Havana
Meet Little Havana’s laid-back neighbor, Riverside. This historic community was the first subdivision developed west of the Miami River. It owes its name to its location there. “Most people don’t even know Riverside is its own place,” says Laura Galvis, a local Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. “It’s mainly known for its proximity to Little Havana. It’s like an extension of it. There are lots of Cuban establishments — you know, where you can get your cafecito.” Riverside experienced growth alongside Little Havana during the 1960s as Cuban immigrants rebuilt networks and businesses in their new Floridian community. Today, Little Havana and Riverside are the center of Florida’s Cuban-American culture. Residents enjoy a walkable, centrally located neighborhood, just one bridge from Downtown Miami and Brickell.
The Riverside neighborhood history can be found outside of Jose Marti Park.
Riverside is mostly composed of smaller multi-family homes, with larger condos around as well.

Calle Ocho Music Festival
The Calle Ocho Music Festival is the largest block party in Florida. It’s been an annual tradition during Miami Carnaval since 1978. It celebrates Hispanic culture with delectable food, colorful artwork, exciting dances and electric performances from Latin musicians. Pitbull, Gloria Estefan and Nicky Jam have all performed on Calle Ocho.
Low-rise condos and vintage houses
Most Riverside residents are renters living in low-rise condominiums and apartments that were built in the 1970s, ‘80s or early 2000s. Prices range between $170,000 and $500,000. Since 2020, new construction has begun to crop up around the neighborhood, such as the luxury high-rises along its riverfront. Units in these buildings can cost upwards of $1 million. Riverside also has a small selection of vintage single-family homes, some built as early as the 1920s. These bungalows and cottages sit on small lots, less than a quarter of an acre, and list from $620,000 to $1.9 million.
Large condos have been erected in the Riverside area around Flagler st.
Single Family homes next to small multi family housing is a popular sight in Riverside.

Other athletic facilities, such as a ballfield for aspiring big-leaguers, can be found at General Jose Francisco Morazan Quesada Park.

Calle Ocho and local Latin cuisine
8th Street, known as Calle Ocho, runs along the south side of Riverside and Little Havana. This staple street features a mix of beloved Latin eateries, with menus hailing from Honduras to Cuba. “Lots of popular ‘Little Havana’ spots are actually in Riverside,” Galvis says. “Like Cafe La Trova. They’re quite famous for their live music and traditional Cuban food.” There are also plenty of options outside of Calle Ocho. The big red rooster in front of El Gallito Grill draws customers in for big portions of Honduran cuisine. Arepera Araguaney Market is a Venezuelan spot that’s gained a fast following for its made-to-order arepas. Day-to-day shopping doesn’t take folks too far from home in Riverside. Publix and Presidente Supermarket are on the neighborhood’s south side, off Tamiami Trail. Corner stores and community markets are located around the area for snacks, drinks and other conveniences.
Many Riverside residents head over to La Trova for some dancing, drinks and fun.
