Coastal community known for its lush tropical landscape
Southwest Coconut Grove is known as one of Miami’s “greenest areas,” with vast outdoor spaces and quiet roads shaded by banyan and palm trees. As a result, the community has also become incredibly active. “It’s more active than any other neighborhood in Miami,” says broker David Siddon, the president of the David Siddons Group at Douglas Elliman. “On any given Saturday, you could go down to one of the cafés on Grand, and you’ll see hundreds of cyclists riding through,” says Siddon, who’s been selling in the Miami area for more than 18 years. Southwest Coconut Grove, known as "Southwest Grove" by locals, is also part of Miami's oldest neighborhood, Coconut Grove. It was settled in the late 19th century and briefly became its own city at the beginning of the 20th century before being annexed by Miami. Today, locals call it "the village in the city," likening it to New York's Greenwich Village or California's Manhattan Beach for its small community feel and trendy "downtown" district.

Snorkeling, boating in Biscayne Bay
The neighborhood sits along the coast of Biscayne Bay, a saltwater lagoon popular among boaters, paddleboarders, and aquatic life enthusiasts. The bay spans 35 miles all the way to the heart of Miami. Also along the coast is The Kampong, a historic botanical garden filled with tropical heritage plants and exhibits highlighting the works of Eleanor Galt Simmons, Miami’s first female doctor and David Fairchild, a renowned botanist. Farther inland sits Merrie Christmas Park, which is mainly an open field wrapped by a paved walking path, but a large playground and shaded picnic area sits off to the side. Elizabeth Virrick Park is another well-used outdoor space. Throughout its 3.5-acre grounds are sports courts, barbeque areas and an on-site recreation center, which features a gym, computer lab, and swimming pool. Teen and youth programming, including seasonal camps, are also held at the rec center.

Luxury multi-million dollar homes
Many homes here sit on manicured lots landscaped with dozens of tropical plants and trees. "The Grove also has an artsy feel, with many homes embracing the jungle-like feel of the greenery," says Nancy Batchelor, the Founder and Vice President of the Nancy Batchelor Team at Compass. "The style of the Grove is fun, artsy, and laid back." Several popular home styles are available here, including Mediterranean dwellings with stucco facades and terracotta-tiled roofs, modern builds with sharp lines and intentional simplicity, Key West-style homes with large second-story decks, and modest bungalows with gabled roofs. While there are some modest, renovated homes that start around $600,000, most are large three- to six-bedrooms that range from $1.2 million to $5 million. There are also several villas and estates, many on bayfront property, that can exceed $31 million. Another option are condos and townhouses, which mostly sit on the north end of town. Smaller two- to three-bedroom units can start around $550,000, while larger three- to four-bedrooms can exceed $2 million.
