Midfield is a city on the move. This small town south of Birmingham is home to a tight-knit community. Neighbors come together for river clean-ups, basketball games at the recreation center, picnics in the park and more. The town is made up of Craftsman and National-style homes and full-brick ranch-style houses, with home prices ranging from $40,000 to $190,000.

Children in the area attend Midfield Elementary School. The school encourages students to give back to their community with the Midfield Cares Program. Through the program, children have participated in a coloring book and crayon drive for a children's hospital, a Valentine's Day visit to Oak Knoll Nursing Home and a holiday canned food drive. Middle school students attend Rutledge Middle School, while teenagers in the area attend Midfield High School, which boasts fantastic athletic programs.

Midfield Park is a popular spot for community gatherings, with a playground and ample space for picnics and barbeques. Locals can escape the Alabama heat at the park's splash pad, youth leagues can practice at the park's baseball fields and friends can play tennis at the area's courts. Canine companions can run and play at the dog park and local anglers can fish at the park's lake. The Midfield Recreation Center has an activity for just about anyone. Its newly renovated weight room has treadmills, stationary weights, dumbbells, a sauna and locker rooms. Residents can get boxing lessons from "Sweet Lou" Hawkins, take Zumba classes, explore tap, ballet, jazz and hip-hop dance or attend neighborhood association meetings.

Residents can access the High Ore Line Trail from the neighborhood. The tree-shaded 3.1-mile trail passes over several large roads, three active railroads and Valley Creek, offering scenic views of the water. In 2019, an extension was added to the trail, connecting it to Red Mountain Park's Venice Road entrance. Through the park, hikers and bikers can connect to the BMRR South Trail, part of a network of several paths that weave through the beautiful. Visitors to Red Mountain Park are transported back in time, as it's one of the country's largest industrial archaeological sites. Hikers can discover old landmarks and artifacts from the area's mining past through scenic trails. Adventure-seekers can whiz through the mature trees along the park's zip line, enjoying the beautiful views. Of course, there's plenty to experience on foot. The park has 16 miles of multi-use trails that wind through 1,500 forested acres.

Residents can bring their canine companions to Remy's Dog Park within Red Mountain Park. Recognized by Southern Living magazine as one of the "10 Great Southern Dog Parks," this doggie oasis has three separate dog parks with shaded areas, benches and open spaces for pups to run and play. The park also has treehouses for visitors to enjoy. Haskell's Hideaway is a 1.37-mile hike from the welcome center, along the Smythe Trail or via the SkyHy Ridge Trail. Locals can cross a long, swinging bridge to the large platform built around a tree that soars into the sky. Visitors enjoy incredible panoramic views of the park from its viewing platform.

Church's Texas Kitchen, Bre's Gourmet Restaurant and Urban Smoke Bar and Grille are popular local eateries, while groceries and household necessities are found at the town's Piggily Wiggly. With scenic mountain trails, a strong sense of community and proximity to downtown Birmingham, Midfield is an appealing place to call home.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process. Midfield is a good neighborhood, but it's right next to another neighborhood that's not a good area at all. Only one block separates us. There are no jobs available in this area, it's a small town. All of the businesses are closing, the police department has had to make a cut and they have like 2 cars. It's terrible. My area is safe, small shopping stores, fast food restaurants and a couple of pharmacies are in walking distance.
