Surrounded by tranquil lakes, Ellerslie offers the chance to enjoy living amongst tall Georgia pines and peaceful open fields just a short drive from Columbus. This Harris County bedroom community has experienced growth over the last few years, providing acreage while remaining close to the city. Buyers will find a retreat within the woods with access to well-rated schools and community gathering spaces. “Ellerslie is one of those areas you just don’t hear negative things about,” says Realtor Alison Cox with Keller Williams River Cities. Cox has been selling homes for nearly 20 years. “It’s on the outskirts of Columbus and most people drive into the city for amenities, but what you’re getting out there is a sense of peace and security—that’s priceless to people who buy there.”

Spacious acreages and waterfront homes on Brackett’s Lake
Most homes in the community offer large, grassy lots that rarely measure less than two acres, surrounded by tall, mature trees. “In Ellerslie and Harris County, homes almost always sit on two or more acres because everyone is on septic, but the benefit of that is all this space,” Cox says. There's a mix of brick ranch-style homes, cabin-style residences and two-story new traditional houses. With the space that these homes offer, residents enjoy that sense of privacy and tranquility. There are also homes on Brackett's Lake and surrounding lakes where residents have peaceful water views and access to fishing, boating and swimming. Prices for homes here typically range between $235,000 and $325,000.

Ellerslie Park is off Highway 85, where visitors can walk along the well-maintained trails or climb up the recently constructed observation tower to take in the view. The park also offers two playgrounds and several picnic areas with covered pavilions. “It’s a popular gathering space for families and folks wanting to get out on the lake. Again—I don’t know a part of Harris County that isn’t desirable,” Cox says. The park surrounds Willis Lake, where visitors can fish or launch paddleboards or kayaks. Several lakes around the area are also great for fishing trips or taking out a paddleboard. Just 7 miles from Ellerslie, Bull Creek Golf Course has a 36-hole green and a driving range.
