Outdoor attractions are woven into life in College Heights
In College Heights, a game of sand volleyball, a picnic or an adventure at the playground is as simple as a stroll down the street. The 26-acre Ulmer Park is the centerpiece of this southwest Midland neighborhood, and it’s a hub for youth sports thanks to its several baseball and softball fields. There are also two public pools within 4 miles of College Heights, so recreation is a key part of residents’ lives. “The park and the swimming pool are a big advantage to the people who live in those areas,” says Lisa Jansa, a local Realtor with Keller Williams Realty and a Midland native.

Ulmer Park’s baseball and softball fields attract families from all over town. “Whether you live in that neighborhood or not, if you have children in sports they’re going to play at those parks,” says Holly Cohen, a local Realtor with Holly Realtors who has almost two decades of industry experience. There’s another, unique space just a few blocks away in Dennis the Menace Park, which has been open for more than 60 years. Cohen says she grew up going to Dennis the Menace Park and that it’s still beautiful. In fact, the park received a renovation in 2019 and has several colorfully painted, themed play areas that hearken to the cartoon character it’s named after. There’s a splash pad here, too. Plus, Midland’s Washington Aquatic Center and Doug Russell public pools are both minutes away.
