A swath of Midland that’s being restored one home at a time
Where some may see an established pocket of the city in Crestview, others see opportunity. This southwest Midland neighborhood is full of homes that date back to the mid-20th century, and that’s the basis for its appeal. “Those homes are going to be more affordable,” says Jonathan Purkey, a local Realtor with The Lanier Team and a West Texas native. Despite their age, many of the homes in this neighborhood have become the subject of renovation work, breathing new life into the area.

Homes here present a blank canvas
Crestview’s straight-line residential blocks are lined with bungalows and ranch-style houses, mostly built in the 1950s. “It’s an older area, so a lot more of the homes over there have larger lots,” says Ashley Howsey, a local Realtor with Turnkey Realty. “Most of the housing over there needs updates.” It’s common for homeowners here to remodel their houses before selling or for buyers to renovate after purchasing. That gives people the opportunity at a modernized home on a lot approaching one-fifth of an acre. Houses here sell for prices between $200,000 and $300,000.

Illinois and Wall are key arteries
This neighborhood is sandwiched between a pair of city thoroughfares in Illinois Avenue and Wall Street. Both stretches are lined with restaurants and other businesses and are important for getting around the rest of the city, lined with stops in the area’s EZ-Rider bus system. Wall Street flows into Interstate 20 Business Loop, which can carry travelers west into the Midland International Air & Space Port for commercial flights, 9 miles away. Texas State Highway 250 Loop connects to Wall Street, too, for commutes to the northern end of Midland.

A bite to eat is convenient to reach
There are quite a few restaurants around Crestview, thanks to Illinois Avenue and Wall Street. “They’re kind of just all over the place in the area. Spread out sporadically,” says Howsey, who has almost five years of real estate experience. Charlas Restaurante & Bar on Illinois has been around for more than 20 years and is known in part for its enchiladas. Riley's Bar & Grill on Wall is known for its bloody marys. People here can also grab groceries close by, at spots like International Taste and United Supermarkets. And the Midland Memorial Hospital Main Campus is only a mile away, too, via Illinois Avenue.

City fosters community
Midland hosts a range of holiday events over the course of each year. Kids can go egg hunting at the annual Easter Egg Eggstravaganza at Bill Williams Softball Complex at Hogan Park for example, roughly 7 miles from Crestview. Kids also have the annual Children’s Sidewalk Parade for the Fourth of July, a tradition in place for more than 60 years and that kicks off at Centennial Park, about a 3-mile trip outside Crestview in Downtown Midland. Centennial is also the site of an outdoor concert and fireworks show for the Fourth. There’s an annual Christmas Parade in town as well, which traverses A Street in an evening affair full of lights.
