Home to the Museum of the Southwest, the neighborhood cherishes the oil hub’s frontier spirit and continued energy-based economy. With a central location, West End is a short drive from shopping, dining and medical services. Plus, the neighborhood offers established homes, meaning lots are grassy, green and mature. “Homes in this area don’t stay on the market long,” says Realtor Daina Perkins with eXp Realty, who was born and raised in Midland. “They’re nice, usually renovated on the inside, and it is a very affordable area.”

Discovering Midland’s history at nearby cultural spaces
The Museum of the Southwest is in the neighborhood and explores Midland’s history and cultural heritage. Established in 1965, the museum showcases the city’s transformation from a railroad stop and oil boomtown to a community rooted in tradition and ambition. Multiple buildings span the landscaped campus centered around the preserved Turner Mansion. Within the 1937 brick home, the Turner Memorial Art Museum features rotating and permanent exhibits of regional and national significance. Works range from those of members of the Taos Society of Artists to pieces by Norman Rockwell and other American icons. Adding the Lissa Noël Wagner Wing’s 11 galleries in 1987 created a modern touch in the museum, bringing contemporary exhibits. The Fredda Turner Durham Children’s Museum fosters learning in science, culture and the arts through interactive exhibits, while the Marian Blakemore Planetarium – one of West Texas’s few public planetariums – offers immersive stargazing experiences. A few blocks north of the museum, the Bush Family Home State Historic Site offers a glimpse into the early lives of one of America’s most influential political families. From 1951 to 1955, the residence was home to President George H. W. Bush, First Lady Barbara Bush, and their children, including future President George W. Bush. The house has been meticulously restored to reflect its 1950s appearance, and visitors can explore George W.’s wood-paneled childhood bedroom.
