Wilshire is a convenient and established neighborhood
On the west side of Midland, Wilshire is an established neighborhood near some of the city’s entertainment hot spots and major roadways. Texas state Highway Loop 250 runs to the west, leading toward commercial areas and continuing through the city. Although it’s in a desirable location, residential streets are quiet and filled with homes that have been in Midland for decades. “Most people moving to this area are looking for convenience to work or their kids' schools,” says Realtor Daina Perkins with eXp Realty, who's a Midland native.

Older homes on grassy, landscaped lots
In the arid West Texas desert, residential streets are flat, wide and walkable. Because most properties in Wilshire were built between the 1950s and ‘70s, they often have established lawns, and mature trees line the sidewalks. “It’s a great area to take a walk,” Perkins says. Small brick cottages and ranch-style homes are common, and potential homebuyers can find houses in the neighborhood for between $150,000 and $300,000, depending on the size, age and condition. Many residents in the neighborhood are renters, and apartment complexes accommodate them.
Wilshire in Midland offers established homes, friendly neighbors, and a welcoming community feel.
Residents love Wilshire for its relaxed atmosphere and easy access to everything Midland offers.

Near Midland's outdoor and entertainment spaces
The neighborhood’s House Park is within walking distance of some homes. There’s a colorful playground, paved walking trails weaving through the grass, picnic tables and a soccer field at this small outdoor space. A large soccer complex is coming to nearby Beal Park, which already has a playground, a fishing lake, a lighted skatepark and other sports facilities. Come September of 2028, the ExxonMobil Soccer Complex will feature more 60 fields for tournaments in the city and give a permanent home to the Midland Soccer Association. For now, locals can head to the Scharbauer Sports Complex to watch athletic events. About 2 miles from the neighborhood, the facility hosts Astound Broadband Stadium, home of the Midland High School and Midland Legacy High School football and soccer teams, as well as Momentum Bank Ballpark. The ballfield hosts the Midland RockHounds minor league baseball team, and fans crowd the stands in the spring or explore the sprawling stadium, which includes a lighted splash pad for kids, a basketball court, shaded picnic areas and more.

Shopping and dining along Loop 250 and Midland Drive
Two commercial corridors border Wilshire. To the west, Loop 250 leads to an H-E-B grocery store, Sam’s Club and restaurants. Folks can dine at La Mision, which serves large portions of Mexican food; Clear Springs Restaurant, with American fare and an interior mimicking a barn; and Fair to Midland, an adults-only bar with outdoor games and a large slide. To the east, Midland Drive leads to more dining options along Illinois Avenue. Along this corridor, Back in the Day Café has exterior facades that mimic the wild west, while Jimmy T’s Drive Thru is a go-to for dessert, serving ice cream and shakes. There is also some limited retail along Illinois Avenue, including a Dollar General and a few local restaurants. For medical services, Midland Memorial Hospital is about 3 miles away.

Getting around Wilshire
Wilshire has access to some of the city’s main thoroughfares. Loop 250 borders the neighborhood to the west and connects to U.S. Interstate 20, which travels from arid West Texas to the state’s center. Bus stops are located along Thomason Drive and Midland Drive. For air travel, the Midland International Air & Space Port is about 8 miles away. “We have a great airport and highway system,” Perkins says.
Wildfires a potential concern
Potential residents should be advised that the neighborhood is at severe risk of wildfire, as is most of Midland.
