Midway's growth brings new homes to a rural setting
Midway is a quiet, small yet growing community on Tallahassee's outskirts. According to the U.S. Census, the area's population increased more than 50% between 2000 and 2020. "Tallahassee is not very big, so you get that country feeling in Midway while still being close to the city. People like to be away from the hustle and bustle," says Ursula Hannah, a seasoned real estate professional with 1st Realty Appraisal Inc. The community contains several new subdivisions in a rural and peaceful backdrop. Residents typically travel outside the area for schools, grocery shopping and local events.

New homes in subdivisions and older houses on wooded lots
Buyers can find private homes on wooded lots and custom-built houses in recent subdivisions. Many properties on the market are 21st-century residences with three or four bedrooms; single-story homes with attached garages are the most common. Some of the newest houses are inside developments such as Orion's Point and Rustling Pines. "Newer construction can range from $300,000 to $420,000. The pricing is slightly less than Tallahassee, and you get more land in Midway for the price," Hannah says. Many older houses are along quiet roadways, behind pine trees and dense shrubbery. There are also several manufactured homes in Midway. Houses built from the late 1980s to the 2010s typically cost between $200,000 and $300,000.

Interstate 10 and Highway 90 make commuting convenient
Although the county provides a specialized public transportation service, formally known as Big Bend Transit, most residents travel by car. "Midway gives great access to Interstate 10 and Highway 90. Although it's not really on the outskirts of Tallahassee, it's very close to in-town amenities," Hannah says. Downtown Tallahassee is roughly 10 miles away. However, commuters should expect traffic when heading to the city center.
