Jackson Park

Jackson Park is a hub of outdoor activity
The city first purchased the 113-acre Jackson Park in 1907 and has since developed it into a popular and active community commons. Jackson Park Pond sits at its center, filled with ducks and geese. Surrounding the pond are tennis and basketball courts, and a football and soccer field. Dense forest patches cover much of the park, with winding, shaded walking trails passing beneath. The park is also one of many stops along the Oak Leaf Trail, a 135-mile network of paved, multi-use paths that runs throughout Milwaukee. On Thursday afternoons from June to September, the park also hosts the Jackson Park Farmers Market, where visitors pick from a colorful array of locally grown produce and other goods.1920s Tudors and bungalows line the streets
Most Jackson Park homes sit along quiet streets with tall, mature trees providing ample shade. Many also back up to rear alleys with garages, carports and private parking spots for residents. Early- to mid-20th-century architecture fills the neighborhood's residential blocks, including bungalows and Tudor cottages from the 1920s and 1930s. Some bungalows feature brick facades and front bay windows, giving the popular home style a spin seldom found anywhere else in Milwaukee. World War II-era Cape Cods and Colonial Revival homes are also standard, as well as ranch-style homes from later decades. Prices range from the low $100,000s for a two-bedroom, one-bathroom fixer-upper to the mid-$300,000s for a large four- or five-bedroom home with recent renovations. As for crime, Jackson Park has a CAP Index score of 4 out of 10, the same as the national average.Families have their choice of Milwaukee Public Schools
Milwaukee Public Schools serve the area, and families can choose which schools their kids attend. Many kids start their education at Manitoba School, which serves prekindergarten through eighth grade and has a C-minus on Niche. From there, they can head to Audubon Technology and Communication High School for ninth through 12th grade, which offers four learning pillars: technology, community, college, and careers. It serves about 385 students and has a C rating on Niche. Families also have the choice of private schools in the area, including multiple faith-based academies.Dining in the neighborhood and shopping just outside of it
Forest Home Avenue, a major Milwaukee thoroughfare, runs diagonally through the neighborhood and has several locally owned restaurants situated along it. One of the most popular is Di Stefano's Pizza Palace, Jackson Park's go-to stop for pizza, calzones, pasta and other Italian staples for over 50 years. Residents run errands at the Southgate shopping area, just east of the neighborhood, picking up groceries at Pick ‘n Save and essentials at Walmart.
Major employers are nearby
Several major employers sit within and just outside the neighborhood, including Global Power Components and Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center. The latter is Wisconsin’s largest hospital with nearly 1,000 beds, so Jackson Park residents needn’t travel far should a medical emergency arise.I-43, I-41, MCTS buses are easily accessible
Interstates 43 and 41 are located a few miles from the neighborhood and connect to other major roadways, giving drivers multiple ways to traverse the city. Commuters can get downtown and stay off the highways by taking South Layton Road. For public transportation, West Forest Home Avenue is dotted with Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) bus stops around the city. For those who need to travel farther, the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is about 7 miles southeast of the neighborhood and offers flights throughout the United States.
