A neighborhood with an old-fashioned suburban feel
The largest green space in Milwaukee’s South Side is the centerpiece (and namesake) of Jackson Park, a neighborhood where residents enjoy an old-fashioned suburban feel thanks largely to the efforts of the Jackson Park Community Association (JPCA), which puts on year-round events from public movie showings to a July 4 celebration. One of the most popular events the JPCA organizes is the nighttime trick-or-treat event they put on every Halloween, which includes a team of volunteer security personnel. “We get people from all over — we’ll have 800 to 1,000 participants,” says Milwaukee Alderman Mark Borkowski. “You could spend hundreds of dollars on candy or whatever you’re giving away. It’s that popular.”

Jackson Park is a hub of outdoor activity
The city first purchased the 113-acre Jackson Park in 1907 and has since developed it into a popular and active community commons. Jackson Park Pond sits at its center, filled with ducks and geese. Surrounding the pond are tennis and basketball courts, and a football and soccer field. Dense forest patches cover much of the park, with winding, shaded walking trails passing beneath. The park is also one of many stops along the Oak Leaf Trail, a 135-mile network of paved, multi-use paths that runs throughout Milwaukee. On Thursday afternoons from June to September, the park also hosts the Jackson Park Farmers Market, where visitors pick from a colorful array of locally grown produce and other goods.

1920s Tudors and bungalows line the streets
Most Jackson Park homes sit along quiet streets with tall, mature trees providing ample shade. Many also back up to rear alleys with garages, carports and private parking spots for residents. Early- to mid-20th-century architecture fills the neighborhood's residential blocks, including bungalows and Tudor cottages from the 1920s and 1930s. Some bungalows feature brick facades and front bay windows, giving the popular home style a spin seldom found anywhere else in Milwaukee. World War II-era Cape Cods and Colonial Revival homes are also standard, as well as ranch-style homes from later decades. Prices range from the low $100,000s for a two-bedroom, one-bathroom fixer-upper to the mid-$300,000s for a large four- or five-bedroom home with recent renovations. As for crime, Jackson Park has a CAP Index score of 4 out of 10, the same as the national average.

i've lived here 31 years...the first 20 were really nice, peaceful, quiet, common consideration for your neighbors. excellent. if you like to listen to kids screaming and yelling at the top of their lungs and very loud mariachi music until wee hours of the morning, then, this is the place for you now...and the crime rate has gone up substantially...there were always kids around, but, people refuse to keep their kids under control now...it's not very nice anymore.
