Post-World War II homes
While some homes in Southpoint date back to the early 1900s, most were built in the decade or so following World War II. Midcentury ranch-style homes are easily the most prominent architectural style here, with prices ranging from $150,000 to $250,000. Similar styles vary in material and size. There are elongated, brick-faced builds next to petite, aluminum-sided homes. Cape Cod and Neo-Colonial properties are also common and cost around $250,000. All homes sit on uniform lots with long driveways that lead to detached garages, and the streets are lined with sidewalks.Skate, swim and stay healthy at local parks
Wilson Recreation Center features three softball fields, tennis and volleyball courts as well as a public pool with a diving well. Its indoor ice rink is open most days for public skating, regardless of the season. "Wilson Park is tucked back into the neighborhoods, but it has established amenities like public restrooms," says Drew Zirzow, a local manager with Milwaukee County Parks. "The swimming pool is popular in the summer, there's a great sledding hill in the winter, and the ice rink is home to a cooperative hockey team from 24 different public schools — those games get a good turnout." Residents can also head to Zablocki Park, which has sports courts and a nine-hole golf course. The park is the site of a bimonthly free health clinic hosted by the Philippine Cultural and Civic Center Foundation. For those who prefer working out indoors, Planet Fitness operates a location in the Point Loomis Shopping Center just off South 27th Street.IB diplomas, automotive internships at Pulaski High
Southgate residents can easily take the sidewalk to Morgandale Elementary School, which gets a C-minus rating from Niche. This public school welcomes kindergarten through eighth-grade students who enjoy competing in coed sports like volleyball, soccer, and T-ball. Also within walking distance, Word of Life Lutheran School is a private, faith-based option that hosts regular fellowship events outside school hours, including community pickleball games every Sunday. High schoolers can attend Casimir Pulaski High, rated C. The high school features an authorized International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and Wisconsin's largest automotive school, which offers apprenticeships with local car dealers.

In recent years, South 27th has staked its claim as a major South Side business district. It's not a very walkable area, but a bus line runs along the road, connecting the local businesses and big brands. The section that goes through Southpoint has a Ross, Pick' n Save and Buffalo Wild Wings. Just north of the area, Leon's Frozen Custard has long lines most nights in the summer and is regularly ranked as the best frozen custard in the state. Across the way, Ned's Pizza has been a local favorite since it opened in 1969. "South 27th Street is kind of the coolest street in the city, I always say," says Jeff Majdoch, the owner of Big Putts Mini Golf, which sits along the street as well. "It's diverse; everyone gets along and hangs out, nobody argues or beefs with anybody based on color, religion, you name it."
