A residential, commercial, industrial and aerial neighborhood
Timmerman West feels like a half-dozen Milwaukee neighborhoods blended into a single slice of the Northwest Side. A major highway and a peaceful, forest-enclosed river split this community into distinct residential, commercial and industrial sections. It’s also home to Timmerman Airport, a small site where private charter planes and pilots in training take to the skies.

The neighborhood’s sidewalks eventually connect residents to the Oak Leaf Trail, a county-wide trail system stretching more than 130 miles. Within the neighborhood, the Oak Leaf Trail leads travelers to the Menomonee River Parkway. Here, walking paths and secluded coves offer intimate views of the softly flowing Menomonee River, complete with the company of various critters. “We have a lot of migratory birds like we do in southeast Wisconsin,” says Tyler Zwagerman with the Community Development department of the neighboring Menomonee Falls. “It’s a great place to enjoy the river and the sights and sounds of nature. You’ll see a lot of people from the community out.” Indoor recreation is available just west of the neighborhood at Butler Skateland, one of the area’s largest roller rinks.
