Park Knoll balances quiet living with an easy commute
Park Knoll is a quiet neighborhood on Milwaukee's far northwest side that combines a natural feel with everyday convenience. With wooded surroundings and the nearby Menomonee River, it has a peaceful atmosphere that can feel surprisingly removed from the rest of the city. Many homebuyers are attracted to the larger yards, calm environment and quick access to Interstate 41.

How home prices here compare with nearby communities
Cape Cods, colonials and ranch-style homes make up most of the neighborhood's housing. Many homes were built in the 1970s and come with quarter-acre lots. "The lawns in Park Knoll are three times as large as ones you'd find closer to downtown," says Benjamin Mullikin, a Realtor with M3 Realty. "It's still an urban setting but leans more suburban." Hardwood floors and finished basements are common features in the area. The median sale price is in the low $300,000s, with most homes falling between the mid-$200,000s and the mid-$300,000s. That generally makes Park Knoll less expensive than Menomonee Falls but pricier than nearby communities like Mill Valley, Florist Hills and Timmerman West. "There are a lot of nicely kept homes there, but it's also an economically attractive neighborhood," Mullikin says.

Students can apply to schools across the district
Park Knoll is part of Milwaukee Public Schools, which uses a school choice system that lets students apply to schools across the district instead of being assigned based on their address. One notable option is Ronald Reagan High School, which holds an A-plus rating from Niche and was Wisconsin's first all-International Baccalaureate high school. Many local students can walk to River Trail School, which is in the neighborhood.

Dining options and easy access to everyday shopping
Park Knoll is mostly residential, but finding somewhere to eat is easy. Nearby communities offer everything from casual takeout spots to local breweries:
Dave's Hot Chicken, serving Nashville-style hot chicken tenders and sliders with spice levels ranging from mild to extreme
PHO 4 U Vietnamese Cuisine, known for its extensive menu of pho, banh mi sandwiches and vermicelli bowls
Third Space Innovation Brewhouse, a 10-barrel brewery offering experimental beers and a full food menu
When it's time to run errands, many Park Knoll residents head to the shopping areas along West Brown Deer Road and nearby Appleton Avenue. These corridors offer grocery stores, big-box retailers and other everyday essentials. The neighborhood is also close to the Granville area, which makes it convenient to stock up on household goods or visit larger shopping centers without crossing the city.
Where to walk, bike and explore along the river parkway
A major green corridor nearby is the Menomonee River Parkway, which has several walking routes. The paved Oak Leaf Trail offers a continuous path for cyclists and joggers, while more rustic riverside trails appeal to hikers looking for a quieter route through the woods. The parkway connects several regional parks, creating a network of green space for picnicking, birding and fishing. For a different kind of outdoor experience, Dretzka Park covers over 300 acres with year-round activities. Golf enthusiasts can play the 18-hole course, known for its tree-lined fairways and elevation changes, while a 27-hole disc golf course draws players from across the area. In winter, the park's hills are popular for sledding and skiing.
