Town & Country Manor
Homes neatly organized
Town & Country Manor is laid out in a winding network of residential blocks, with homes neatly plotted on relatively evenly sized lots. Most of the lots are around one-tenth of an acre, enough for front and backyard space. The majority of the houses that fill these lots were built in the mid-20th century, a mix of bungalows, colonials and ranch-style homes. Floor plans in the neighborhood average about 1,200 square feet. Prices here usually fall in the $100,000s and $200,000s. “The housing is still relatively cheap compared to some of the other neighborhoods that are similar,” says Duer, who has multiple years of real estate experience in the area.Eateries, grocery stores and more are easy to find
The neighborhood doesn’t have a ton of commercial offerings, but there is a Walgreens along Teutonia Avenue here. Locals don’t have to go far to find more, though. A quick drive west along Good Hope Road, which runs along the neighborhood's northern edge, will bring people to a Pick 'n Save, convenient for groceries and other essentials. There’s also a Culver’s near the Pick 'n Save, part of a Wisconsin-based fast food chain whose cheese curds are a self-proclaimed “dairyland delicacy.” Prime Social Restaurant & Bar is a well-liked sit-down restaurant just off Good Hope Road, known in part for its lamb chops. Also, a fourth location of Cafe Corazo´n, a Milwaukee Mexican restaurant franchise, opened just a couple miles outside Town & Country Manor in the Village of Brown Deer. “That one’s pretty popular,” Duer says.
An explosive pastime
Among the amenities along Good Hope Road is Noyes Park, home to an annual Fourth of July celebration. Noyes is a spot where people in the area can go for fireworks each year. Also, Village Park in the Village of Brown Deer hosts a monthly concert series in June, July and August, dubbed Community Vibes.Hawthorne has a distinct tradition
The Milwaukee Public Schools system, which carries a C overall grade on Niche, allows students and their families to pick their top three school choices regardless of where they live. Hawthorne School is a conveniently close spot for those who live in Town & Country Manor, for prekindergarten to fifth grade. One of the things Hawthorne, which has a C-minus grade, is known for is its annual Black History Wax Museum, when students learn about important Black figures and get the opportunity to present facts about them to members of the school community. From Hawthorne, students may move on to Morse Middle School for the Gifted and Talented, a C-rated school emphasizing STEM learning and college prep. James Madison Academic Campus is an option for grades 9 to 12, with a C-minus grade and dedicated academies focusing on health sciences, hospitality and tourism, and finance.Brown Deer is just the beginning
The Brown Deer Park Golf Course where Tiger Woods made his pro debut is part of the larger, 300-acre Brown Deer Park that lies just outside Town & Country Manor. Those who live here can reach the park quickly, to enjoy its hiking and biking trails, athletic fields, sand volleyball pit, and a pond open to fishing, stocked with bass, panfish and trout. Also, the public golf course at Brown Deer is one of multiple in the vicinity, including the public Noyes Park Golf Club and the private University Club of Milwaukee and The Wisconsin Country Club. Noyes Park has an indoor pool, too. The 237-acre Havenwood State Forest is yet another option for some fresh air just 2 miles from Town & Country Manor and offering hiking, Duer says.Convenient location can come in handy
Town & Country Manor offers multiple bus stops in the Milwaukee County Transit System, many lining Teutonia Avenue. The MCTS network features some 40 routes in total. And arteries here like Good Hope Road can connect commutes with Interstate 43, which can take people to Downtown Milwaukee, about a dozen miles away.
