Life in an Ohio village
Minerva is a small, historic town on the outskirts of Canton. Home to 3,700 people, it has a culture all its own. “It is a quintessential small town with a wonderful community feel and a very friendly atmosphere,” says Denise Freeland, executive director at Minerva Area Chamber of Commerce. “We have a very charming downtown, and for a small town, we have a lot of events and activities going on.” The historic downtown features red brick roads with locally owned restaurants housed in antique storefronts. Minerva also has an active arts scene, with two galleries, a community theater group and colorful murals splashed across downtown. “Our superpower is that we all work together,” says Freeland. “The chamber, the arts council, the school district, the (Future Farmers of America), the athletic boosters— we all support each other.”

Vintage homes line the downtown streets
Ranch-style homes, cottages and American Foursquares sit on compact lots, most of which are a quarter-acre or smaller. Homes tend to be older, with most built between the early 1900s and the 1960s. Residences tend to be centrally located downtown, where narrow sidewalks line broad streets separating lawns dotted with shrubbery, pines and oaks. Prices range from $90,000 to $200,000.
Victorian architecture from the early 1900s is prominent in Minerva's earliest houses.

Bicentennial Park is one of the most popular in the area. With lush greenery and creek-side views, this trail-threaded spot offers a nature escape for hikers and cyclists. “When the weather’s not freezing your tail off, I walk my dog around Bicentennial,” says Jim Swain, Realtor with High Point Real Estate Group, referring to the mile-long walking path. Bicentennial also has basketball and tennis courts, baseball fields, a sand volleyball pit, a playground and a skate park. Minerva Municipal Park, referred to by locals as Brock Park, offers sports courts, a playground and a swimming pool. For groceries, there's Yoder's Country Market & Deli, while Market Street features several little boutiques and locally owned shops selling clothing, antiques and gifts. Restaurants line Lincoln Highway and Market Street. Que Pasa Authentic Mexican Restaurant In Minerva is a well-known and festive spot that serves casual and, as the name would suggest, authentic dishes. Walker's Cafe is a destination for breakfast plates and sandwiches with fresh-cut fries. Hart Mansion Restaurant features fine dining and views of Minerva atop a hill on a historic estate. This family owned restaurant serves American food, with seafood, steak and pasta at the forefront. Another popular hang-out is the Sandy Springs Brewery. “Come and spend an evening at the Sandy Springs Brewery, and you’ll like Minerva even better,” says Swain. He mentions the cozy outdoor seating being a particular draw, offering a view of the historic downtown storefronts. “When the weather accommodates, you sit out on the corner there right at the intersection of Market and Lincolnway, and people wave at you. It’s a small community, so you tend to get to know everybody.”
The Hart Mansion was built as a home in 1869 and converted to a fine dining restaurant in 2008.
