Wooded back yards and private lanes bring an almost-rural atmosphere to Convington, a quaint, South Minnetonka neighborhood. The community has quiet streets that feel far removed from commercial areas and urban amenities, while Downtown Excelsior is only 4 miles away and Minneapolis is around 17 miles northeast. Peaceful natural areas, local restaurants and lakeside beaches are all within a 3-mile radius. “Most people move to the Minnetonka area for the recreation,” says Joe Carmack, a local Realtor with Keller Williams Classic Realty. “Locals like having access to Lake Minnetonka, whether they take a boat out or want a day on the beach.”

Property sizes range from a quarter of an acre to 1 acre, and many have mature trees providing privacy from neighbors. While there are no sidewalks, a lack of through traffic allows residents to enjoy quiet streets. Most of the area’s houses range from $425,000 to $590,000, while some homes on large lots with more square footage can go for $700,000 to $1 million. At 22 square miles, Lake Minnetonka is one of the largest lakes in Minnesota and lies around 3 miles northwest of Covington. Beaches, marinas, picnic areas and golf courses line the lake’s shores. From Excelsior, locals can launch their boats for a day on the water, or visit Excelsior Commons for the picnic tables, public beach and sports facilities. “Every Fourth of July, there’s a huge fireworks display on the lake, "Carmack says. “People come together and make an island of pontoon boats to watch the celebration, while others enjoy it from the shore. It draws in hundreds of people every summer.”
