Known for wooded lots, Sherwood Forest has convenient access to modern comforts
Just off Interstate 394 in northern Minnetonka, Sherwood Forest is a suburban community known for its natural beauty. "It's a heavily wooded area that has beautiful winding roads, and the lots are fairly spacious," says Cassie Frick, a Realtor with Edina Realty. "It's also less than a mile from Ridgedale Center, a major shopping mall." Privacy and modern homes make the area popular with retirees. At the same time, families are drawn to the neighborhood for its access to high-ranking public schools.
A variety of housing options available, from midcentury to modern
True to its name, Sherwood Forest is dense with foliage. Mature evergreen and maple trees shade the streets and driveways, adding a woodsy atmosphere. On average, homes in the area are 1,000 square feet larger than the national average, and lots tend to be half an acre or more. Loops and cul-de-sacs are typical, and over a dozen ponds and small lakes dot the landscape, giving many homes waterfront views. Townhouses are priced from the low $200,000s for modest two-bedroom models to the low $700,000s for large spaces with vaulted ceilings and finished basements. Midcentury-inspired ranch-style and two-story traditional homes with brick exteriors run from the low $600,000s to the low $800,000s. Sprawling modern estates with amenities like home gyms and screened porches start in the mid-$900,000s and reach as high as $3 million.
Home of a major shopping center
The Ridgedale Shopping Center is in the neighborhood's northwest corner, featuring many retail options like Macy's, Victoria's Secret and Nordstrom. The area also has franchise restaurants and big-box stores like Target. Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. Bacio offers a fine dining experience with a Tuscan-inspired atmosphere and a considerable wine menu. Ham's Sandwich Shop puts a gourmet spin on classic deli sandwiches like the Cubano, club and meatball sub.

Natural beauty can be found at Hilloway Park and Crane Lake
Hilloway Park is a 28-acre nature preserve. Nature lovers can walk through this green space on a half-mile trail, taking in native spruce, aspen and oak trees. Mayflower Park's playground and half basketball court attract families, while amateur athletes visit Big Willow Park for its baseball fields and soccer pitch. The Ridgedale YMCA has a fitness center and indoor pool, and Crane Lake is a hub for boaters and anglers.
Musical events are every year with Tonka Swings and Summer Fest
Minnetonka High School's jazz bands invite locals to the Oak Ridge Country Club yearly for Tonka Swings. This night of live music and dancing is a community tradition, where guests dance to raise money for the Minnetonka Band program. The city's annual Summer Fest is a day of family friendly performances, rides and food, culminating in a fireworks display. More competitive Minnetonkans can register for the fest's Pickleball Tournament.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data.
