Neighbors enjoy company and convenience in Spring Hill Park
Spring Hill Park is a tranquil suburban neighborhood that offers convenient commutes around the Twin Cities while providing homeowners with a strong community spirit. “The people I grew up with are all very good friends of mine still, so I figured we would probably find a similar experience, and we have, so it’s great,” says AJ Pettersen, a Spring Hill Park resident and team leader at eXp Realty. “In the summers, most Friday nights, we get together with five or six other families, sometimes a bigger group. There are lots of people to spend time with and have our kids grow up together.” The community is centered around its namesake park, which has room for a variety of activities. The natural setting isn’t limited to the park; dense trees and spacious lots fill the neighborhood, offering a quiet place to call home while still close to major highways and dining destinations.
Suburban homes fill the tree-covered lots in Spring Hill Park
Spring Hill Park features midcentury ranch-style, split-level and two-story traditional houses. Many of the homes were built by tract builders in the 1960s, so floorplans are often similar, and Pettersen says there are very few custom houses in the area. The large lots are covered with mature trees, adding plenty of shade during the spring and summer. Homeowners have spacious lots that provide room for features like pools or large gardens. Houses under 2,000 square feet typically cost between $400,000 and $500,000, while larger homes can sell for $515,000 to $820,000. The area also includes some townhouses that range from $300,000 to $400,000. The neighborhood has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
Minnetonka parks offer plenty of room for outdoor fun
The neighborhood has multiple recreation sites nearby, including its namesake park at the center of the community. This park has several sports facilities, including a basketball court, a tennis court and a hockey rink. It also has a small playground, and Pettersen says it’s a favorite spot for residents to walk their dogs. Purgatory Community Preserve is a nearby natural area with around 155 acres to explore. The park provides more than 2 miles of trails, including a loop that takes visitors through ecosystems like wetlands, prairies and woodlands. The extensive trail system connects to other regional paths, allowing visitors to bike to the park from nearby communities. Lake Minnetonka is west of the neighborhood and is popular for boating, fishing and swimming. Marinas are located at several points around the lake and public beaches are nearby in Excelsior.
Students can attend some of Minnesota's best public schools
Students in Spring Hill Park might attend Scenic Heights Elementary School, which gets an A-plus from Niche, and Minnetonka Middle School East, which receives an A. Minnetonka High School also gets an A-plus and is the third highest-rated public high school in the state. It serves approximately 3,500 students and has a variety of programs offering college credit and hands-on work experience. Minnetonka also offers the rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
Popular Minnetonka restaurants are close to home
Locals can choose from various dining options in and around the community. Pettersen recommends Coalition in the nearby city of Excelsior. This spot is known for its upscale take on American food, and the beer, wine and cocktails. Ike’s is across County Road 101 from the neighborhood and serves burgers and ribs in a casual setting. Groceries are available at Cub supermarket and other stores include Target, Northern Tool + Equipment and Opitz Outlet. Doehling’s Farm Market sells seasonal produce, flowers and outdoor décor from a roadside spot off Highway 7.
Highway 7 offers an easy drive into the Twin Cities
The nearby highways provide easy commutes throughout the Twin Cities region. “It’s super accessible. There’s an entrance on the highway to go east. We’re in downtown Minneapolis in about 20 minutes,” Pettersen says. “We can go to the end of our street, take a right and be on a 55-mph highway that leads to the major freeway systems.” Highway 7 connects to Interstate 494 and multiple other roads, offering a 16-mile drive into the heart of the metro region. Walking to some of the area's restaurants is possible using the local trail network. One bus route serves the neighborhood; Metro Transit's Route 667 has stops on County Road 101 and leads to Minneapolis.
