Woodland-Highland
Suburban Neighborhood in Minnetonka, Minnesota
Hennepin County 55345
The area offers both starter homes and sprawling estates
Woodland-Highland is a neighborhood of meandering roads, small bodies of water and cul-de-sacs. Lots are half an acre or more, dotted with mature white pines and sugar maple trees. Midcentury homes are available between the mid-$400,000s and the high $500,000s, while traditional and colonial styles go from the low $600,000s to the low $800,000s. Sprawling neo-traditional homes with gardens, waterfront views and other modern amenities run from the high $800,000s to $1 million. While the median home price is well above the national median, Johnson says homes are relatively affordable for the area. “It’s got approachable pricing for Minnetonka – a little more entry-level for a wider audience,” he says. “You can be a first-time buyer and get something nice here.”Glen Lake Golf and Practice Center has private instruction
Tennis courts, walking trails and a playground are available at Woodgate Park. The Glen Lake Golf and Practice Center offers professional instruction in its golf academy or a casual nine holes on their public course. Though it provides some picturesque scenery, Wing Lake isn’t available for boating or other recreational purposes. Less than 6 miles west is Lake Minnetonka, the largest in the Twin Cities region. This 15,000-acre lake is a destination for anglers, boaters and nature lovers.Hopkins offers well-ranked, "underrated" public schools
Students will attend Glen Lake Elementary School, which has a B-plus from Niche, before enrolling at Hopkins West Junior High School, which has a B. Older students will head to Hopkins Senior High School, which has an A-minus. “People give a lot of credit to the Minnetonka School District, but Hopkins School District is high quality, too,” says Johnson. “I think it’s underrated.”Summer Splash and Open Dome Movie Night are annual events
Summer Splash is an annual event held in July. Families head to Central Park for a day of splash pads, live performances and plenty of food. Springtime means the Open Dome Movie Night at Brooklyn Park — an invitation to the entire city for an outdoor family friendly movie screening.Convenient routes to Minneapolis, Excelsior and Lake Minnetonka
Woodland-Highland is bordered by State Highways 7 and 3 to the north and south, respectively. Interstate 494 is less than 3 miles east. Minneapolis and St. Paul are 16 and 31 miles east, respectively. “It’s a convenient commute into the city,” says Johnson. “Also, you’re not far from Lake Minnetonka, and it’s a short drive to downtown Excelsior.” Metro Transit has a bus service that stops on Highway 7.High-end and casual dining available at Tonka Pizza and Gold Nugget
The neighborhood is entirely residential but has convenient access to surrounding shopping and dining. Tonka Pizza is a neighborhood favorite that offers wings, cheesecake and specialty pizzas by the slice. Gold Nugget puts an upscale spin on tavern food with gouda mac and cheese, street tacos and their fig and brie cheeseburger. Retail and grocery favorites like Target and Cub are 3 miles west, off State Highway 101.
