Casta del Sol
Casta del Sol's recreation centers and more
Recreation is at the heart of Casta del Sol. The neighborhood’s recreation centers, large Mediterranean buildings, have pickleball courts, a fitness center and an Olympic-size pool. Next to the pool, residents can find plenty of seating: tables with umbrellas and loungers shaded by pergolas. “They have spas, tennis courts, bocce ball courts and a lot more,” Argue says. At Heritage Garden, residents can reserve their own plots where they can plant fruits and vegetables. Oso Creek Golf Course, on the neighborhood’s western edge, is a public 18-hole course with views of the Santa Ana Mountains. “It’s not exclusive to the community, but I'd say it's super accessible and convenient for them,” Argue says.Over 50 clubs and annual events from the Casta del Sol social committee
With over 50 activity groups and clubs, there’s a bevy of get-togethers on a daily basis. Residents can spend time with friends and craft together, create ceramics, play pool and much more. Casta del Sol also has its own social committee that plans annual big events. Some of these include a Super Bowl Party in February, a Memorial Day BBQ in May and a Halloween Night in October. At the Halloween Night, attendees don their spookiest costumes and do the Monster Mash.Mediterranean ranch-style houses and landscaped lawns in Casta del Sol
The neighborhood is a peaceful 24/7 gated community with a suburban feel — full of winding roads and cul-de-sacs of single-family homes. The architecture as well as the landscaping remain cohesive; the HOA maintains the area to its standards. The houses lie on lots with garden beds full of agave plants and sculpted boxwood shrubs. Built in the 1970s through the 1980s, all the homes are Mediterranean ranch-style, with tile roofs and stucco exteriors. These range from $700,000 to $1.2 million.Stores, restaurants and entertainment at Mission Viejo Village Center
Located 2 miles south of the neighborhood, Mission Viejo Village Center is a strip mall with plenty of shopping and restaurants. Delizie Ristorante serves classic Italian food and brunch in a white-tablecloth dining room. Patrons can also opt for a patio with tables shaded by umbrellas and decorated with plants. At Harmony Tea Bar, there’s boba tea with a small shopping section of mugs, strainers and other tea accessories. For groceries, locals can stop by Trader Joe’s. The shopping center also has bowling at Saddleback Lanes.50 miles to Los Angeles
Casta del Sol is a car-dependent community. Via nearby Interstate 5, the neighborhood is about 50 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles, and 20 miles east of Santa Ana and Orange. Although there’s no public transit within Casta del Sol, there are also multiple Orange County Transportation Authority bus stops along Marguerite Parkway, a road that borders the community. The Providence Mission Hospital Mission Viejo is 5 miles south of the neighborhood, and John Wayne Airport is around 15 miles west of the community.
