A quiet retreat 7 miles from Missoula
Piltzville started as a home for lumber workers in nearby Bonner. Today, it’s a neighborhood of less than 500 people that’s about 7 miles from Missoula. Backed by a forest that leads up Bonner Mountain, the neighborhood is surrounded by public land. “There’s incredible hunting and fishing around there,” says Crystal Ault, a Broker with Glacier Sotheby’s International Realty. “For somebody who likes the outdoors, Piltzville is a great place to live.”

The Blackfoot River has multiple fishing access points within a few miles of Piltzville, and Milltown State Public Park, located along the river, has water access for putting in kayaks and inner tubes. Public land surrounds Piltzville, including Bonner Mountain for hiking and hunting excursions. Blue Mountain, about 15 miles west through Missoula, has more hunting options, mainly whitetail deer. Marshall Mountain is about 6 miles away and has trails for hiking, mountain biking and skiing.
Piltzville skiers climb up a Marshall Mountain Park slope to enjoy a free ski on the public-use land owned by Missoula County.

KettleHouse Brewing mixes nature and libations
Built along the Blackfoot River and about 2 miles from Piltzville is KettleHouse Brewing Co. The brewery has an amphitheater that draws national and local acts. “It’s the most incredible setting,” says Ault. “You can sit outside and have a beer and watch mountain goats across the river.” Piltzville isn’t built up with stores and restaurants, but Missoula is about 7 miles away. Most of Missoula’s restaurants are on the north side of the Clark Fork River, which passes through the city. Top Hat is a popular gastropub and event venue with a rustic interior, and FINN offers upscale dining along the river. Betty’s Divine sells vintage clothing on the south side of the river, and more clothing stores like Olive + Iron and Loose Moose are on the north side near the restaurants. For groceries, most head to Albertsons in Missoula.
Thrift shopping can be found in nearby Piltzville along the Hip Strip of Missoula at Betty's Divine.
The KettleHouse Amphitheater next to Piltzville is a great place to watch a live show with great beer.

Entertainment at the Blackfoot River
KettleHouse Amphitheater attracts local and national acts throughout the year. Live music, comedy and seasonal events attract crowds from all over the region. Live music is popular in nearby Missoula, which is known for its shows at venues like Top Hat and The Wilma.

Getting around Piltzville
Interstate 90 runs along the south side of the neighborhood and leads into Missoula, about 7 miles away. There isn’t any public transportation in Piltzville, so a car is crucial for getting around. The Missoula Montana Airport is about 13 miles away and Saint Patrick’s Hospital is in Missoula. The neighborhood is also next to a train track, which can be noisy at times.
Travel to and from Piltzville by way of the Missoula International Airport.
Piltzville public transit is offered nearby in Bonner where bikes are welcome.
