A variety of activities on the banks of the Clark Fork River
With multiple commuter trails in and around the neighborhood, Riverfront is one of the most well-connected communities in Missoula. The Milwaukee Trail, Bitterroot Trail and Kim Williams Trail offer paths in all directions, making it easy to commute to work downtown or the University of Montana campus. However, there's no reason to leave the neighborhood for shopping and dining. "I think it's a really rad place, to be honest. You're so close to downtown, and there's tons of availability to go to awesome things, but you don't need to go anywhere. There are tons of great restaurants in the neighborhood," says Megan Robson, the supervising broker at Affari Real Estate, who has sold multiple homes in the neighborhood. The neighborhood's east end is home to the Hip Strip, a section of Higgins Avenue with several local favorite shops and restaurants. More popular spots are located west of Russell Street in the River Road neighborhood, offering various options for supporting local businesses.

Taking a visit to the Hip Strip
The Hip Strip stretches from the intersection of Brooks Street and Higgins Avenue north to the Higgins Avenue bridge. This section of the neighborhood includes several of the most popular shops and restaurants in all of Missoula. "There's a ton in that area. It's such a cool area. Every shop on Higgins Avenue is locally owned, and it ranges from a baby store to clothing to Green Source, which is smoothie bowls and fresh pressed juices," says Rachael Orizotti Rixford, the broker and owner of Burke Orizotti Real Estate, who has sold multiple homes in the neighborhood. "There's the Big Dipper, which is ice cream. You also have Rockin Rudy's, which is a Missoula staple. It's kind of fun random stuff." Clyde Coffee is another recommendation from Rixford, famous for its classic coffee drinks and breakfast sandwiches in a trendy industrial space. The Big Dipper is one of the most popular ice cream shops in town, famous for its huckleberry flavor. West of Russell Street, Bayern Brewing serves homemade beer with German influences. Edelweiss Bistro is a popular German restaurant in the brewery, loved by locals for its Bavarian pretzels and schnitzel. For home repairs, Robson says residents can visit Home ReSource, a nonprofit that sells donated materials and offers training and education. Groceries are available at the Good Food Store on 3rd Street or Orange Street Food Farm, each offering local and natural foods.
