Golf courses, nature trails and rollercoasters near Mitchellville
One of Mitchellville's biggest green spaces is the 18-hole Enterprise Golf Course, a public facility that's open year-round. Just to the east, golfers may join the private Country Club at Woodmore, which has an 18-hole course, tennis courts and swimming pools. “There’s also a great park called Watkins Park,” Bryant says. “It’s great to take kids to. There’s a train and a petting zoo there too.” The petting zoo, called Old Maryland Farm, is an educational space where children learn about plants and animals. Watkins Park also has multiple playgrounds and a network of shaded nature trails. For more adventurous weekends, the roller coasters, water park and kiddie rides at Six Flags America are about 5 miles south of Mitchellville.

Convenient shopping and eating options
Mitchellville is near a couple of convenient shopping centers, where residents grab dinner at chain restaurants or pick up essentials from big box stores. Woodmore Towne Center, to the east, and Vista Gardens Marketplace, to the north, are both about 2 miles from the community. Both retail complexes also have supermarkets, entertainment options like movie theaters and apparel and home goods stores. Just south of the Woodmore Towne Center is the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center, which is the nearest hospital to Mitchellville. Crime statistics for Mitchellville are not readily available.

As the nearest metro stop, Downtown Largo is at least 2 miles away for most residents, many commuters end up driving. By car, the drive to downtown D.C. can take anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour, depending on traffic. U.S. Route 50, known here as John Hanson Highway, passes through the north side of the community, taking drivers about 20 miles to Annapolis. Residents have easy access to the Capital Beltway, which loops around Maryland, D.C. and Northern Virginia, via John Hanson Highway and Landover Road. For longer trips, the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport are both about 20 miles from Mitchellville.
