Kimberline
Suburban Neighborhood in Mobile, Alabama
Mobile County 36695
Bungalows and capes in the shade
“The houses out that way tend to have large yards,” says Jeff Jones, Realtor with Keller Williams Mobile. “The average lot size is a quarter to a third of an acre.” The extra space appeals to buyers who have growing families or pets. “Most of the homes were built in the last 30 years, with a lot of brick construction,” adds Jones, who hosts the podcast Living in Mobile, Alabama. Although most residential streets feature plenty of shade, sidewalks are a rarity here, so joggers and dog walkers beware. Most homes in Kimberline don’t include basements either, primarily because of the area’s high water table. Homes in Kimberline typically cost between $200,000 to $300,000. Bungalows and capes are standard, and many properties include built-in carports and driveways. The airport proximity can be appealing for frequent travelers, but all that air traffic might be a concern for families settling in the area.Commuting to the City Center
The WAVE, downtown Mobile’s bus system, doesn’t travel this far west of the city center, which means residents need cars to get around. “A lot of people here work in manufacturing. Airbus and Austal are two of our major employers,” Jones says. “University of South Alabama is a huge employer as well.” Folks who commute to these locations will have to drive about 15 miles each way.Budding careers at Baker High
Kimberline students attend nearby Hutchens Elementary and Dawes Intermediate School from kindergarten through fifth grade. The elementary school gets a B-minus from Niche, while Dawes gets a B-plus. Next comes Bernice J. Causey Middle School, which receives a B from Niche, followed by B-plus-rated Baker High School, where juniors and seniors can participate in a summer internship program.Baseball and bounce-worthy birthdays
Westside Park, just outside Kimberline, is primarily a baseball field with plenty of seating and a concession stand. It also has a playground, picnic tables and paths for walking. Get Air Trampoline Park, an indoor adventure park, hosts weekly sessions for families, toddlers and kids with special needs. Families can also reserve the trampoline park for birthday parties or other events.Take to the air at Mobile Regional Airport
Mobile Regional Airport is just a 5-minute drive from most Kimberline homes. That means residents often don’t need to make the 30-minute drive to Mobile International Airport, which is closer to the Riverfront Industrial Area.Shopping on Schillinger
Shops on Schillinger, the premier shopping destination in Kimberline, includes SuperTarget, GameStop and other chain stores. Also onsite are restaurants like Sonny’s BBQ and Chili’s. Villa Del Rey Cocina Mexicana offers lunch specials for its authentic street tacos, fajitas and chimichangas. And when it’s time to shop for groceries, locals can visit the Walmart Supercenter or Rouses Market on Schillinger Road.
