Brentwood
Home in the heart of Alabama
Sprawling ranch-style homes and single-story bungalows make up most of the housing options in Brentwood, many constructed in the early-70s. Cape Cods with prominent dormer windows and two-story Colonial Revivals can also be found in the neighborhood, and in-ground pools are a common feature of large fenced-in backyards. Prices range from around $185,000 to $285,000 depending on the number of bedrooms and lot size. Most homes are set far back from the street, with expansive lawns and walkways leading to the front door.Hitting the books in Brentwood
Students in Brentwood are zoned for Dannelly Elementary, rated C-minus by Niche. Dannelly is part of the Montgomery Public Schools system and has a dedicated special education staff and programs for gifted learners. They then move to Brewbaker Junior High School, also graded C-minus. The Brewbaker Cougars recently took home championships in 8th grade boys basketball and wrestling. They finish at Johnson Abernathy Graetz (JAG) High School, which changed its name from Jefferson Davis High School in 2023 and scores a D-plus. JAG High offers a Bridge Builders program designed to help students feel empowered to build positive connections in the community. Athletics are also very popular at JAG High, most notably football, basketball and softball.Walking beneath the Brentwood trees
Dannelly Park, located next to Dannelly Elementary School, hosts youth softball and baseball games. The park also has basketball courts and a playground where children can play. For a more expansive green space, many Brentwood residents head 2 miles north of the neighborhood to Vaughn Road Park, which features grassy play spaces, tennis courts, a playground and around 1 mile of walking trails. Despite the lack of green space directly in Brentwood, residents still manage to enjoy the outdoors. “There aren’t really many parks inside Brentwood, but there are a lot of sidewalks,” says Realtor Ryan Beesley with Re/Max Tri-Star, who’s sold homes in the area for 20 years. “People go for walks or ride their bikes around. It’s a very pedestrian-friendly neighborhood.”All the best of Alabama
Renfroe’s Market on McGehee Road is a close-to-home option for grocery shopping, while Publix is just one mile away on Zelda Road. Just one mile further, Midtown Plaza is home to the nearest Walmart Supercenter. The popular STEAK-OUT chain restaurant serves flame-grilled steak, chicken and shrimp from their location on Carter Hill Road, and when further cravings set in, residents are close to the best of downtown. “This place is literally in the center of Montgomery,” Beesley adds. “It’s so convenient to get to downtown – just about 5 miles.” Here, locals gather at Dreamland BBQ, an Alabama staple, to devour classic southern ribs right by the Riverfront.Interstate 85 and Highway 80
Brentwood residents can easily connect with Interstate 85, following it 5 miles west into downtown Montgomery when looking for a night on the town. Highway 80, which runs along the south border of the neighborhood, provides the community with its connection to Montgomery Regional Airport just under 10 miles away.Blount Cultural Park
Alabama’s capital city is brimming with entertainment options, and Brentwood residents are just a short drive from the action. The annual Seafood and Arts Festival takes place just 5 miles from the neighborhood at Blount Cultural Park, kicking off a season of live music in Montgomery every spring. Blount Park is also home to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, one of the 10 largest such theatrical events in the world.Montgomery on the stage of history
Montgomery is a city that is intensely tied to dark and bright chapters of American history. The city served as the birthplace of the Confederacy in February of 1861, launching the country into the Civil War. Almost 100 years later, Montgomery became the birthplace of the Civil Rights movement when Rosa Parks was arrested in December of 1955, sparking boycotts and Freedom Rides in support. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s former parsonage is now the site of a museum on South Jackson Street, and both the First White House of the Confederacy and the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church are within sight of the State Capitol. The result is a fitting display of the duality of American history, one that remembers both the tragic and the heroic moments of the past to strive for a more perfect future.
