Vaughn Road Elementary School, which receives a C-minus rating from Niche, is to the southeast, and Flowers Elementary School, which holds a C, is to the north. Also within the area is Montgomery Academy, a K-12, co-ed nonsectarian school that's been serving the community since 1959. This school requires students to apply to be admitted and pay tuition. Scholarships and other financial aid are available to families that qualify. The school has a strong emphasis on STEM. Students start by learning basic computer skills and progress to web research, digital art, slideshows, programming and more. The arts are another big part of this school. There are musical instrument, visual arts and theater programs, but the main focus is its stellar choral program. Students in the Choral Academy have performed at state conventions, been featured with the New England Symphonic Orchestra at Carnegie Hall and gotten to tour across the country. Additionally, the Montgomery Academy Speech and Debate Team is among the best in the southeast. They have consistently been ranked in the top 1% of speech and debate programs in the U.S. by the National Speech and Debate Association and won the Leading Chapter Award from the NSDA four times. The academy hosts STEAMfest each year at their Lower School campus. The free event is open to the community and designed to engage elementary school children in hands-on science and art activities.
