Moonachie is a small borough in Bergen County located in the Hackensack River watershed. Stories passed down over the years say the borough was named after Monaghie, an Iroquois chief, who lived in the area's cedar forest in the 1600s.

Moonachie has a large mobile home community. Most mobile homes have between one and two bedrooms and one bathroom. Prices run from around $65,000 to $150,000. There are also sections of the neighborhood with standalone residences, primarily single-family ones. Housing styles include bi-level and ranch-style homes. Also, some homes for sale need significant work done to them. For example, sometimes houses are marketed as "contractor special." Because of this, housing prices vary, from $400,000 to $700,000.

The Moonachie School District serves public school students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade at the Robert L. Craig School. For high school, students attend Wood-Ridge High School as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Wood-Ridge School District. Wood-Ridge High School has earned an overall B-minus rating from Niche, including an A-minus for its diversity, a B-plus for teachers and a B-minus in academics. Moonanchie students are also eligible to attend Bergen County Technical Schools, which teach a variety of programs, including science and technology.

Attached to the borough's community center is Veteran's Park. At the park, children can romp around the playground or shoot hoops with friends. You will find several recreational soccer fields in the middle of the borough. Close by is the Hackensack Meadowlands Conservation and Wildlife Area. While the main focus is to protect and preserve this area and the watershed, you can stroll across the water on the walking bridge. Also nearby is the Meadowlands Sports Complex, home to MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants and New York Jets, a horse track and state fairgrounds. MetLife also hosts concerts including the likes of Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, Beyoncé and Metallica. The sports complex is also home to American Dream, a large retail and entertainment multiplex. Besides having top-notch shopping American Dream is an indoor playground like no other. There's the Nickelodeon Universe theme park, DreamWorks Water Park, an indoor ski slope, Sea Life Aquarium, Legoland Discovery Center and so much more.

When hunger strikes, enjoy a meal at one of the neighborhood's several restaurants. The small borough covers a variety of cuisines, including Cuban, Italian and steakhouses. Start your day with a latte or matcha boba from Tinto Coffee, a Colombian bakery and deli. For a formal dining evening, spend your night at Segovia, a Spanish eatery known for its large portions. This family-owned restaurant's menu features extensive seafood and steak offerings. Bistro 107 Cucina Italiana Restaurant offers a prix fixe or general menu for its dinner offerings.

Approximately 9 miles northwest of New York City, Moonachie residents can reasonably commute into the city for work and play. But there is also so much in and near the borough. From local restaurants in Moonachie to a quick drive over to MetLife for a game or show or to the American Dream mall, there is plenty to do right at home.
