Community on Montage Mountain with a small-town vibe
“The heart of Moosic is the amenities and the people,” says Marilee Barone, currently an associate broker at Christian Saunders Real Estate with 8 years of experience in the area. Moosic’s roots are in the coal mining industry, but it has now come to be recognized for its small-town vibe and relatively low cost of living. Newer developments at Glenmaura Commons, a residential lifestyle community in Moosic, have brought more attention to the borough in previous decades. The community sits on Montage Mountain and boasts its 18-hole Championship Golf Course. Moosic as a whole is a school-oriented neighborhood that supports the Riverside School District and works to keep the area family-friendly. Residents dote on the accessibility of the area, the view and activities of Montage Mountain, events at the PNC Field and proximity to major interstates and cities, such as Scranton, Philadelphia and New York.
Montage Mountain and more in Moosic
One of the liveliest areas in Moosic is Montage Mountain. It is home to the Glenmaura Commons subdivision, a Pavilion, ski slopes, a popular shopping center, trails and in the summer, a waterpark. The Pavilion at Montage Mountain is an outdoor amphitheater, which has been hosting concerts and festivals for over 20 years. The mountain covers 140 skiable acres, and the slopes are open at night, as well. Only 8 miles from downtown Scranton, and about 120 miles from both New York City and Philadelphia, Montage Mountain sees an influx of visitors from surrounding urban areas as well as from locals. Another attraction in Moosic is the PNC Field. The stadium is home to the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, and also serves as a venue for private events.

Homes at Glenmaura and beyond
Traditional-style homes with gabled roofs and three-bedroom ranch-styles fall in the $100,000 to $300,000 range. Homebuyers come to Moosic to get more home for their money, as return on investment is high in this area. “The affordability is amazing here. That’s what brings many people to Northeastern Pennsylvania,” Barone concludes. Newer homes near Glenmaura Commons are much pricier than other homes in the borough and tend to sit on larger plots, some right on the golf course. These properties are less than 20 years old and vary in size and style. Luxury properties sell in the $500,000 to $800,000 range, with contemporary four-bedroom homes on the market starting at $1 million. Townhouses with two-car garages can also be found at Glenmaura Commons, starting around $200,000.

Locals can also shop at Gerrity’s Supermarket, which offers a bakery and deli.
