Moreland Hills is an eastern village with humble roots as a farming and dairy community. It now stands as the gateway between its neighboring parks to the east and the bustling city of Cleveland, located 22 miles away to the west. The mind of Robert Stern Sr. developed the community into what it is now. His dream of suburban living carved the path of this former part of the old Orange Township into a community of its own and inspired the village as it is known today.

Mature trees line the residential streets. If you counted their rings, you’d find that some are as old as the houses they surround. This well-established neighborhood has homes built as early as the 19th century, many of which have adopted the Western Reserve architectural style that Ohio is known for, including the childhood home of James Garfield, the 20th president of the United States. Since then, several houses were built in the 80s and 90s, a mix of Colonial and modern Traditional homes, as the village grew. “The lots are much larger than those in the other communities nearby,” says Susan Smith, Realtor with Howard Hanna. “Homes tend to be on 3 to 5 acre lots.” Residences are selling for the average price of $889,136.

Families with children attend Orange City School District, and according to Smith, schools are precisely why some people choose to move into the area. Moreland Hills Elementary School serves the village’s youngest residents. According to GreatSchools, students here excel in English, Math and Science, notably far above the state averages. Children attend Ballard Brady Middle School from sixth to eighth grade before continuing to Orange High School, which boasts a four-year graduation rate of 98%, says GreatSchools. Further educational opportunities are present at the nearby Orange Branch of Cuyahoga County Public Library. Families with babies and toddlers can visit Storytime with songs, fingerplays and books. Older children can join the fun at the weekly book club meetings, and adults can attend lectures by rotating organizations, including the Enneagram Theory of Personality series.

After a busy day, relax with friends at the Chagrin Valley Country Club on SOM Center Road. A Canadian golf course architect, Stanley Thompson, designed the 26-hole fairway. Play a round along the 18-hole championship course. Or, for a change of pace, you can snag seats for a polo match, horse shows or riding events on the weekend at the Cleveland Metroparks South Chagrin Reservation Polo Field on South Woodland Road. You’ll even be able to ride your horse on the Polo Field Trailhead. You can make an entire day out of it by visiting the connecting parks. Bring a friend for a hike along the nature trails, where you’ll spot local wildlife inhabits like migrant songbirds or pack live bait for an afternoon of fishing at the Chagrin River.

When you want to restock your fridge with essentials, you can access nearby grocery stores, including Heinen’s Grocery Store on Pinetree Road. For more variety, Trader Joe’s on Chagrin Boulevard is a short drive away. But some homeowners have kept farming traditions alive with modest homesteads.

For more adventure, visit the neighboring Chagrin Falls by heading 2 miles south on Chagrin Boulevard for dinner. Settle into 17 River Grille when craving American fare with a stunning view. During warmer weather, dine outside for the ambiance of a cascading waterfall in the background of your meal. However, if you’d like an upscale dinner with drink pairings, then tuck into Village Martini & Wine Bar.

Think Moreland Hills when you want plenty of space with a blend of natural wonders and proximity to neighboring communities.

Moreland HIlls is a beautiful community. The parks throughout Moreland are beautiful. There is ample green space with many trees and open spaces. Wildlife is abundant. There are beautiful rolling hills throughout the community, making it a perfect place to train for running or biking. Very close to Cleveland with many oppotunities for entertainment - sporting events, art, restaurants, dancing.

The housing is the best in Ohio. The quality is top notch, with no abandon properties. The cost is a little high but is well worth it. Utillities are not very expensive, in fact they are more affordable. The best homes a usually not visible from the street.
