Neighborhood homes share a cohesive Mediterranean style
Rainbow Ridge is dominated by houses with Mediterranean-style influences, including terra-cotta roofs. “The houses are a bit more uniform, a lot of them are 1,700 square feet and up,” King says. Most were built in the 1980s and 1990s, but some homes sprung up in the last decade, including newer homes in the Legacy Park subdivision. Sidewalks line streets all over Rainbow Ridge, adding an element of walkability. Properties in the area go for $400,000 to $800,000.The area is well-connected by I-215, buses, and near a major medical center
Residents have quick access to stops in the region’s Riverside Transit Agency bus system, which has almost 30 RTA routes. “They’re always running,” King says. “I know a lot of the school kids use them because they can ride for free with a school ID.” Rainbow Ridge is about 4 miles from Interstate 215, for commutes to places including neighboring Riverside. I-215 is also a way to reach San Bernardino International Airport, 20 miles away. The Kaiser Permanente Moreno Valley Medical Center, a 100-bed facility, is a 4-mile drive from the neighborhood.Rainbow Ridge Elementary has an active PTA
The Val Verde Unified School District covers this area and earns a B-plus rating on Niche. The neighborhood’s C-plus-rated Rainbow Ridge Elementary has a PTA that supports a range of programming. March Middle, next to Rainbow Ridge Elementary, has a B-minus grade and counts band among its extracurricular opportunities. The A-minus-rated Rancho Verde High offers electives including dance classes.Perris Boulevard and Iris Avenue place multiple big-box stores close by
Rainbow Ridge’s homes are all within about a mile of Perris Boulevard, a stretch lined with all sorts of businesses, including The Home Depot, which is across from the Westgate Shopping Center. Westgate’s tenants include Perris Donut & Burger Shop, popular in part for its breakfast burritos. Red Maple Pizza, a bit farther south off Perris Boulevard, is probably the best pizza parlor in Moreno Valley, King says. Iris Avenue intersects Perris and has an Aldi grocery store. Multiple houses of worship off Iris Avenue include Imani Praise Fellowship, Vertical Church and Strong Tower Church of God in Christ. The southern half of Rainbow Ridge is becoming a hub for jobs, too, with distribution centers for companies like Amazon, Lowe’s, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Sam’s Club. “It’s starting to [be a hub],” King says. “They’ve been adding those warehouses over the last 10 years.”
Fourth of July is a big deal in Moreno Valley
The city counts a major Fourth of July celebration among its annual community events. The day kicks off with a parade starting about 4 miles north of Rainbow Ridge on Frederick Street. Festivities continue with a Family FunFest at the Moreno Valley Civic Center Amphitheater, where there’s a kids' zone, beer garden, live music and fireworks. Other events include the annual Southern California Air Show in April at the nearby March Air Reserve Base, which draws hundreds of thousands of people across two days.Santiago Park is a newer outdoor space with a playground and more
In 2022, the city of Moreno Valley opened the nearly 3-acre Santiago Park in Rainbow Ridge. The space features two half basketball courts, a playground and outdoor fitness equipment. The park bleeds into three ball diamonds behind March Middle and Rainbow Ridge Elementary schools. Local Little League teams use the fields for practice, King says.
