Morgan is a small, outdoorsy city on the Weber River

In Utah’s Morgan Valley, Morgan is a small city surrounded by the peaks of the Wasatch Range. The mountains, the Weber River and Weber Canyon provide ample recreation as well as striking scenery. The area’s highland geography also gives it a more secluded atmosphere; Ogden is the closest major metro, about 25 miles away. “It's kind of quiet, out of the city, with a rural feel. It's more small-townish,” says Re/Max Associates Utah Realtor Adam Speth, who has over two decades of expertise in the region. The community has a population of approximately 4,300, who visit the historical district on Commercial Street for local businesses and family-friendly events.

Recreation areas, including the Weber River and East Canyon State Park

On the eastern outskirts of Morgan, Devil's Slide is a natural 40-foot limestone structure that looks like a giant slide down a mountainside. “It's the most famous attraction. It's mostly a rock formation, a scenic opportunity,” Speth says. It towers above the Weber River, which runs throughout Morgan and provides the area with many places to go rafting and tubing. Round Valley Golf Course has river and mountain views on its public 18-hole course, located on the east side of Morgan. “There's a lot of hiking, hunting and biking in Morgan. There’s a little lake called East Canyon that’s pretty popular,” Speth says. East Canyon State Park, located about 15 miles south of the community, offers fishing and kayaking with views of the Wasatch Range surrounding the water.

Bungalows, ranch-style homes and contemporary homes in Morgan

The central part of Morgan has grid-style streets, lined with single-family homes on lots often decorated with juniper bushes and evergreen trees. This area has Craftsman bungalows as well as midcentury ranch-style houses. Subdivisions with cul-de-sacs on the north and south ends of the community offer contemporary houses. Most of the homes within Morgan have mountain views, although multiacre properties on the outskirts of town feature panoramic overlooks. According to a Homes.com calculation, which uses a combination of estimated data, the average home value in Morgan was around $610,000 in the summer of 2025. “There's a low amount of inventory, so it tends to be a seller's market and probably sells faster than average,” Speth says. “At least, the homes priced according to market value will sell faster than the Utah average.”

Shops and restaurants on Commercial Street

Commercial Street, on the north side of Morgan, is a walkable retail district with local restaurants. They range from the train-themed barbecue spot The Smokin' Boxcar to Deb's Spicy Pie, a rustic pizza joint. “Taggert's is pretty popular, and then there are miscellaneous little businesses everywhere,” Speth says. Located on the east end of the community, Taggert’s Grill serves American food in a relaxed log cabin setting. Its patio features views of the Weber Canyon and peacocks strutting about. The nearby Train Bridge at Taggart's is a local attraction, a dramatic view of trains exiting mountain tunnels and crossing a bridge over the river. Local shops on Commercial Street include the gift shop Morgan Mercantile and the pharmacy Morgan Drug & Gift. Just a mile away, Ridley's Family Markets is the city’s grocery store.

A 25-mile commute to Ogden and more transportation

Major employers nearby include Morgan County School District and Morgan Health Center. Via Interstate 84, the community is about 25 miles from Ogden and about 45 miles from Salt Lake City. Morgan is also about 45 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport.
