Award-winning flowers and forest preserves

Morton Grove is known for its trees, forest preserves that makeup about 20% of the land, and renowned greenhouses that grow award-winning flowers. “The winning rose from the 1904 World’s Fair in St. Louis was grown here in Morton Grove,” says Mark Matz, the Morton Grove Chamber of Commerce Executive Director. The village now stands as a residential community where birds fill the trees and music from the summer concerts in the park fills the air. Morton Grove is about 17 miles northwest of Chicago and the first Metra Train stop past the windy city. People moving to Morton Grove will find a mix of older, historic areas dating back over a century and newer, developing areas, faith-based institutions and local businesses.

100 Years of Morton Grove Days

Locals gather for celebrations and festivals frequently throughout the year, with Morton Grove Days over the Fourth of July holiday being one of the biggest. “The 100-year-old tradition is a week-long celebration that includes a fair, fireworks, a parade and more,” Matz says. The Morton Grove Park District also manages concerts and park events throughout the summer, as well as other events like a sustainability fair and the Chamber of Commerce’s spring and fall market fares.

Go for a hike in Linne Woods

Morton Grove is home to 14 local parks and a few recreation centers that host different programs and events throughout the year. The Park District provides several indoor and outdoor sports and activities for exercise, including pickleball. Harrer Park includes a seasonal pool and water park featuring a 50-meter main pool, a diving board, a plunge pool and a kiddie slide, which are amenities that people of all ages enjoy during the hot summer months. The Linne and Freedom Woods are prominent nature preserves in the heart of the village, with the North Branch Chicago River flowing down the center of the preserves. The woods provide a natural element for people to go jogging, walking, biking or horseback riding in a wooded area.
