Moscow Mills offers a quiet lifestyle outside Troy
Just southeast of Troy , Moscow Mills is a Lincoln County city of about 3,300 known for its rustic lifestyle. “It’s not that big of a community just yet,” says Kathy Burks, a Realtor with Nettwork Global who’s served the Greater Saint Louis area since 2018. “We don’t even have a regular grocery store.” Burks says this atmosphere is particularly well-suited for families. “They love it,” she says. “It’s a nice group of residents who live out here.” Other appealing factors include acreage, high-value homes and relatively lower crime rates. The CAP Index Crime Score in Moscow Mills is 2 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4 out of 10.
Most homes were built after 2000 with modern layouts and lots
Most homes in the area were built in the 21st century, usually in New Traditional styles. Prices range from about $250,000 to $450,000, depending on lot size and amenities. Modern subdivisions surround the city center with winding roads and quarter-acre lots. Homes are largely one-story and feature brick facades, attached garages and covered porches. The median price for a home in Moscow Mills is around $320,000, higher than the county median of around $250,000. “You can’t find new homes for under $350,000 in most of the surrounding areas,” says Angie Harness, a Realtor with Keller Williams Chesterfield who’s served the area since 2017.
A JROTC program was added at Troy Buchanan High in 2025
Students in the area can begin at William R. Cappel Elementary, which has a B-minus from Niche. From there, they can attend Troy Middle School, which has a C-plus. Finally, they can enroll at Troy Buchanan High School, which has a B-minus and began a new JROTC program in 2025. Missouri offers transfer options for students interested in an education outside of their assigned district.
Dining options include a steakhouse and a local diner
Most shopping is along Highway C, including some locally owned retail and a Dollar General for groceries. For necessities, locals often head to nearby Wentzville , which has stores like Target, Kohl’s and Aldi. Established in 1998, Harry J’s offers a classic steakhouse vibe with carved wood décor and a menu filled with various cuts of red meat. Chubby’s Restaurant is a local diner that serves everything from omelets to freshly baked pies.
Nature lovers enjoy trails, river views and a state park
Based around the historic site of an early-20th-century river mill on the Cuivre River, Mill Park is an open area of green space with picnic stations and a walking trail. In 2025, the city announced plans to expand its only public park with athletic facilities and a performance space. Less than 4 miles away, Cuivre River State Park offers about 6,400 acres of outdoor recreation, including camping sites, hiking and horseback riding. Lake Lincoln is a popular spot for anglers and pleasure boaters.
Route 61 connects to Troy and Wentzville
U.S. Route 61 cuts through Moscow Mills, providing straightforward access to Troy and Wentzville, about 4 and 12 miles away, respectively. St. Louis is about 50 miles southeast. Mercy Hospital Lincoln is a 25-bed medical facility with emergency services and an urgent care.
The annual Lincoln County Fair brings summer fun
The Lincoln County Fair has been held every summer in Troy since 1899. The festivities include 5 days of livestock exhibitions, rides, tractor pulls and horse shows.
