Patriots Point
Suburban Neighborhood in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
Charleston County 29464
The prices rise with the elevators
"Patriots Point has one of the few waterfront luxury condominium complexes in Mount Pleasant, so it's a rare find, and people are really drawn to the views," says Patty Scott, Realtor with Luxury Simplified Real Estate. Residents of high-rise condominiums like the Renaissance on Charleston Harbor look out over the harbor from dual patios attached to a range of two- to three-bedroom condos with open floor plans. "I always say the prices there move like the tides. They're always fluctuating," Scott says. "It's hard to find a condo under $1 million, and if you do, it's going to be on the first-floor garden level." Prices, of course, rise with the elevators in such luxury buildings and can reach up to $4 million for a 4,100-square-foot penthouse. Many more expensive units offer private elevator entrances, and all have gated garages with individual storage rooms. Additional amenities include pools, fitness rooms and community rooms.Lowcountry seafood on the water
Boaters have a prime spot to store their vessels at the Charleston Harbor Marina, which is within walking distance of residences. After a day on the water, the Charleston Harbor Fish House fills up, where diners chow down on classic Lowcountry seafood dishes while sitting next to the water. Those who would rather cook at home must drive to Whole Foods, which is a little more than a mile away. A quick stroll to the other side of the Ravenel Bridge leads to Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park, a favorite among locals for photo ops or relaxing by the water on a large grassy green meadow. A 1,250-foot pier also stretches out across the Cooper River, where anglers and walkers can be seen enjoying the gorgeous sunsets.Golf, baseball and naval history
The harborside views continue around nearly every corner of the 18-hole course at Patriots Points Links, where players may practice on the lighted driving range or grab a bite to eat at the golfers' grill. The water and Ravenel Bridge also provide a picturesque backdrop for the Patriots Point Soccer Complex and the College of Charleston's baseball stadium. The College of Charleston Cougars and the minor league club, the Charleston Battery, play here. Visitors to the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum can step aboard World War II aircraft carriers like the USS Yorktown and a fleet of National Historic Landmark ships. "The naval museum is super popular and very educational for kids," says Andrea Sullivan, a local Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway. "The USS Yorktown has a Medal of Honor museum. There used to be a submarine there you could tour." Sullivan strongly recommends the "inexpensive helicopter tours over the harbor" at Fly In Helicopters.
A FEMA flood zone
The Federal Emergency Management Association categorizes waterfront buildings on Patriots Point as being in a Special Flood Hazard Area, which means buyers will want to check the policies specific to buildings.Close to beaches and Downtown Charleston
According to the CAP Index, Patriots Point has a crime score of 4, which is the national average. Statistically, the score is primarily due to occasional property theft. Interstate 526 and US Highway 17 form a half circle around the outside of the neighborhoods, making it easy to access beaches.A new high school
Primary school Mount Pleasant Academy and Moultrie Middle School each received an A rating from Niche. Nearby Lucy Beckham High School, which received a B, is one of the newest schools in Mount Pleasant, having opened its doors in 2020. In the short time the school has been open, it's built a well-respected athletic program, winning a state title in lacrosse and sending five wrestlers to the state finals in 2023.Luxury apartments just across the Ravenel Bridge
While Patriots Point is filled with family-friendly activities, living there tends to appeal to those who desire luxurious apartment living just across the bridge from Downtown Charleston.
