Remley's Point
Suburban Neighborhood in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
Charleston County 29464
Mansions and ranch-style homes
Wide and sometimes pockmarked streets are flanked by oaks draped in Spanish moss and crape myrtles. Postwar ranch-style homes neighbor new Coastal-style homes. “You get more bang for your buck because there are larger lots, ranging from a quarter-acre to almost two acres in some cases,” says Ariel Trouche, Realtor with Carolina One Real Estate. Many back porches have waterfront views, private deep-water docks, or in-ground pools. Prices start around $2.5 million and can climb up to nearly $4 million for mansions with views of the Charleston Harbor. Trouche says, “It’s one of the grandest neighborhoods in Mount Pleasant because it’s newer, and there are waterfront views from nearly every angle. There’s not much turnover, with only a few dozen homes in the whole neighborhood.” Newer buyers will often tear down midcentury homes and build custom homes. The "crown jewel of Mount Pleasant"
Remley’s Point Public Boat Landing is in keeping with Scanlonville’s egalitarian beginnings, offering boaters, anglers and everyone else a free place to enjoy the Charleston Harbor. The docks at Remley’s Point underwent repairs in the summer of 2023 after hurricane damage and now offer sweeping views of the iconic Ravenel Bridge. At the foot of the Ravenel Bridge, Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park is known colloquially as “the crown jewel of Mount Pleasant.” Opened in 2009, the park has a scenic meadow, a shady nautical-themed playground and a war memorial sculpture designed by the same artist who sculpted the World War II Memorial in Washington DC. On any given weekend, Charlestonians and tourists can be seen eating soft serve from the River Watch Café and strolling the park’s 1,250-foot pier over the Cooper River.Excellent schools
James Edwards Elementary School received an A-minus from Niche and offers a magnet program in global leadership. From there, students filter into another well-regarded school, Moultrie Middle School, which received an A from Niche. The closest high school, B-rated Lucy Beckham, opened its doors in 2020 to help alleviate overcrowding in Mount Pleasant. The school also has the distinction of being the only public high school in the state to offer veterinary science courses.Lowcountry style
Lowcountry-style restaurants surround Mount Pleasant. Boat owners can dock at Vickery’s and have a meal before heading home. Because the eatery is settled along Shem Creek, there’s not a bad seat in the house. Inland, Second State Coffee is a hipster coffee shop that serves locally sourced food. Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Harris Teeter are in Patriot’s Plaza. Baseball and soccer fans will appreciate being on the other side of the bridge from the College of Charleston Baseball Stadium and Patriots Point Soccer Stadium.
