Walking path passes along Kopp Park
A paved walking path that starts in Des Plaines, just to the east, passes through the middle part of the neighborhood and past Kopp Park, which has a soccer field, playground and a couple of baseball diamonds. It also passes near RecPlex, an indoor recreation facility with a fitness center, 20,000-square-foot gymnasium and indoor pool. Four levels of membership determine which amenities are accessible. River Trails Tennis Center is an indoor and outdoor tennis training facility that caters to beginners and experts of all ages, with lessons available and the chance for experienced players to join leagues.Robert Frost Elementary School is in the neighborhood
The neighborhood's public school system for elementary and middle school students is the Community Consolidated School District Number 59, and Robert Frost Elementary School is part of it. People stay here,” says Peter Gialamas, a broker/owner at Century 21 Langos & Christian. “My office is right around the corner, so I know the area well. There’s a nice mix of condominiums, townhouses and single-family.” For split-level, ranch-style and raised ranch single-family homes, prices run from $350,000 to $575,000. While nearly 60 percent of people in Birch Manor are renters, the sale price for condos is between $150,000 and $250,000, with monthly maintenance fees from $300 to $400. The same maintenance fees apply for townhouses, with prices ranging from $300,000 to $400,000.Houses of worship in the neighborhood include Trinity United Methodist Church, Redemption Bible Church and Saint John Lutheran, which has been using the same facility on Linneman Road since 1892.
Pace provides public bus transportation
The Pace suburban bus system is active in Mount Prospect. There are stops on well-traveled roads like Golf and Algonquin Roads and Dempster Street. It’s 2 miles north to reach the Mount Prospect Metra station, providing a 50-minute ride into downtown Chicago. Endeavor Health Northwest Community Hospital is about 4 miles to the west in nearby Arlington Heights.Shopping centers along Elmhurst Road
The busy intersection of Golf and Elmhurst Roads is one of the shopping centers in the neighborhood with retail options. The Golf Plaza II Shopping Center has a KD Market, with primarily Polish and Eastern European-based foods. That same influence is in the deli section, where meats and cheeses are sourced from local producers and Europe. Ball Factory is next door and has an indoor playground with slides, a climbing area and various options for kids to burn off energy. A café is also available during breaks for kids and adults. Kohl’s is part of the Mount Prospect Center. Ramen Misoya, a Japanese noodle restaurant, is on Busse Road and not part of a shopping center. “It has a cult following throughout Mount Prospect and nearby areas. If you go at lunchtime, there will be a wait,” Gialamas says.
