Mountain Green offers access to the outdoors and big-city amenities
Known for its fresh air, panoramic views and abundant recreation, Mountain Green offers quiet living at a high elevation in the foothills of the Wasatch Range. Though seemingly remote, its location along Interstate 84 and proximity to city amenities are attracting a wave of new homebuyers. "It's definitely growing," says Mandy Wallace, a local realtor with Mountain Valley Real Estate Experts and a longtime resident. "There's an appeal to be closer to the mountains and still be within reach of Ogden.”
Tubing, hiking, skiing and more keep locals active
Mountain Green’s natural setting means most recreation centers around the outdoors. “We are right on the Weber River, so there’s quite a bit of tubing, rafting and fly fishing,” Wallace says. Barefoot Tubing in Morgan provides tube rentals and shuttle services. Pineview Reservoir is nearby and has several swimming beaches and a public boat launch. Wasatch Mountain hiking trails are abundant to the south and north. Snowbasin Resort is one of several nearby skiing destinations. The resort is popular for its selection of beginner to expert-level slopes and reliable snow coverage. Kent Smith Memorial Park is in town and includes pickleball courts, soccer fields, a playground and open space for picnics. “People come up here to road bike because the roads are quiet and the air is clean since we are above the inversion level,” Wallace says.
New Traditional homes embrace natural design
The community’s roads rise and fall with the area’s terrain. Distant mountain ridgelines fill the horizon, and their rolling foothills frame single-family homes built over the last 25 years. Almost all come in New Traditional styles, with a handful featuring custom or semi-custom designs. Though the community comprises several subdivisions, aesthetics remain similar throughout, from bright green yards with fresh mower lines to neutral exteriors with stonework. Homebuyers can expect to see more new homes popping up in the coming years as the area expands. "It has a comparatively higher price point than other nearby communities, and because of its growth, real estate value is increasing," Wallace says. Mountain Green's median price for a single-family home is $908,000. The community has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.
Ogden has robut retail and dining options
Lee’s Marketplace covers grocery hauls close to home, but most residents head 11 miles west into Ogden for retail. Newgate Mall features 70-plus indoor stores, and its surrounding commercial developments include dozens of big-box stores like Target, Walmart Supercenter and more. South Ogden offers a wide range of dining options, with cuisines ranging from Thai and Mexican to American and Italian. Kobe Teppanyaki is a Japanese hibachi spot where patrons enjoy tableside cooking and a selection of sushi. Phoenix House is in town and serves coffee, smoothies and pastries from a historic 1940s bungalow.
Morgan High School offers Career & Technical Education
Morgan School District serves the community and has a B-minus rating on Niche. Mountain Green School scores an A-minus, and Mountain Green Middle School scores a B-plus. Morgan High School earns a B-minus and offers Career & Technical Education. The program grants enrolled students the opportunity to earn college credits and industry certifications through career pathways, such as Business, Consumer Science and Technology/Engineering.
A monthly farmers market and Morgan County Fair
Morgan Farmers Market occurs monthly at Scotsman Center on Saturday mornings. “It’s a newer feature of the area and is growing quite a bit,” Wallace says. “They have a lot of artisans and vendors come out to sell produce and other things.” The Morgan County Fair gets locals together in late July and early August for a week of festivities. Held at Morgan County Fairgrounds, 11 miles southeast, attendees can expect rodeos, exhibits, a parade and more.
Getting around on Interstate 48 and U.S. Route 89
Interstate 84 cuts through the area and intersects with U.S. Route 89, 7 miles west. The latter links residents to Ogden, 14 miles northwest, and Salt Lake City, some 35 miles southwest. State Route 167 is also accessible from within the community and supports travel to the north.
Mountain Green's wildfire risk and mitigation efforts
According to Federal Emergency Management Agency data, Mountain Green is in a relatively high-risk zone for wildfires. The Mountain Green Fire Protection District hosts Chipper Days throughout the year, encouraging residents to remove dead and overgrown foliage to prevent fires in vulnerable parts of the community.
